This is the best t-shirt I have ever owned...literally. I use it to workout, fish, hike, ski, anything that I would need a t-shirt for. It fits great, doesn't lose its shape or pill at the collar. I was hoping to get some more, but see that based on the limited sizing and pricing, it must be a closeout. :( I do not know if I am commenting on the 'old' one or the 'new' one.

I needed some good baselayer-type tshirts to wear when urban bike-commuting (I don't like wearing bike jerseys, because periodically I get off the bike and go into stores or restaurants and want to be dressed somewhat normally), but didn't want to pay a ton of money for them. This tech T fits the bill.

Full disclosure: I never owned the prior version of this shirt, so I can't say how good this version is compared to that one. But I'm also reviewing this version, not that one. And THIS version is fine for what I need. Wicks moisture, comfortable to wear, doesn't chafe, and looks decent--it's slightly heavier material than what I'd ideally look for, but for the sales price, I can't complain at all.

I like the feel of this shirt and have others that have never faded. I wear them as a T Shirt under other shirts in warm and cold weather. I just bought two more even though there have been some bad reviews of the "newer" version.
I will see but want to give them another chance. Need more colors though.

While this new version of the OXT may be a fine shirt, REI should really bring back the older version, and perhaps call it the OXT Classic. Those shirts were great for what I, and apparently many others, used them. Looser fit, great fabric, etc. I'm sure they would sell a bunch of them.

I am surprised to read so many negative comments. I bought the shirt to take with me while traveling in Thailand, Laos, and Viet Nam. There was limited access to laundry so washable, quick drying clothes was key. I wore the gray Tech T-shirt for least six of fourteen days traveling. Washed it in the sink and appreciated the quick drying feature. Looked as good on day one as day six. As soon as I got home I stopped at REI to pick up a couple more for my next trip. While I do normally wear a medium, I did choose a large because I was not looking for a "form fit" shirt for traveling. Wish the color choices included white and black.

It has been said over and over, but I still have to say it again. The old version of this was the best. It was looser, less like spandex, and silkier than the new version. The new seams fit awkwardly and don't fold up well at all. I miss everything about the old shirt and will never buy again until they return to the classic style. But the biggest thing I miss is how the old version fit under another shirt. Because it was silkier, I could easily wear it under an over-shirt. It didn't cling to other materials like the new one does, it just seemed to go with the flow. For layering, it was a much more desirable design and material.

I've been very pleased with the shirt. The size was a bit of a surprise. I'm 225 lbs. at 6'5'' tall, so I'm typically in an XL or an L. In this shirt, I'm comfortable in an M. I don't like a shirt that hugs tight or one that gaps and swings all over. The medium is a good contoured fit for my body type, but it doesn't cling or pull awkwardly while in motion. The shirt works great as a base-layer or on its own, and it wicks about as well as anything else I've worn. I'm not an extremist by any degree, but on 10-15 mile walks and hikes, on 5 mile runs, and even on the bike for 25-50 miles the OXT has gotten the job done. I'd hate to see the new fit go. It's hard to find a good, versatile base that feels so comfortable.

Side note: Major plus is the collar. Most t-shirts gap and stretch at the neck over time. This guy is ten washes or so in at my house with a few workouts between each and I see no signs of wearing or stretching. That's quality. I'm a fan.

I have a dozen of the older OXT shirts and love them. These new shirts have a more tailored fit especially around the torso and under the arms. I was initially concerned with the new shirt until I wore it under my pack. The new seam placement is wonderful and I like the panels on the sides instead of the one seam. The new shirts are great for layering, but do not seem to wick away moisture as much. I find myself wearing the new shirts more than the old. The new shirts seem to be more performance oriented while the older were just great shirts. I recommend you make both.
