Comments about REI Halo +25 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
Another quality product demonstrating REI's thoughtful, balanced approach to gear. I purchased this because I wanted a down bag that was competitively priced, lightweight, and packed small, but more important than that, it had to keep me comfortable at the stated temperature rating. I'd been let down by my last bag's temperature claims, and my hiking buddies have similar gripes about their bags. So when I saw that the Halo +25 used the EN comfort ratings system (which has proven reliable so far), that sealed the deal for me.
The product description and specs pretty much say it all, but I wanted to offer some specifics about the "external chest pocket." It's the small zippered pocket shown on the right side of the first picture: 4.5 inches wide, 4.5 inches deep. That picture also shows the main zipper on the left and the drawcord for the hood on the right. I also appreciate the pad loops (1 on top and bottom, 2 on each side) for securing the bag to a pad. The main zipper functions well from the inside or outside and the anti-snag material (shown in the second picture) surrounding it ensures smooth function and protects the polyester shell. Very satisfied with this bag.

Comments about REI Halo +25 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I sleep cold, and for the first time, on an early season 8 day trip in the high Sierra, one in which the temperatures went below freezing every night, I was never cold. The bag is tight, because the inner bag is smaller than the outside, and so there are very few cold spots, even though I sleep like pretzel and never on my back.
The zipper is different than any I've had. With only one pull that flips inside or out, you can pull it directly toward you so that it does not catch the stiff lining. It never caught as every zipper I've ever had does, although it takes some getting used to.
The hood is exceptionally well designed. It snugs to the head without even closing the bag. It is the best hood I've had. I might add that I also have fine 30°Marmot and Mt. Hardware, but always awake shivering in them.
I am fairly rough on my equipment, and did notice some down material,
not whole down feathers, but small pieces on the outside of the bag toward the end of the trip.
I am very pleased with this bag. The extra 6 oz. is well worth the warmth!

As I get older, I'm trying to go lighter, bought the Halo to replace a heavy 15 yr old Northface w/ polyester fill. Review of Halo said that its 25 deg European rating was equiv of 20 deg. I think not. I was cool on a not very cold night. It's very compact and light, and for warm sleepers probably great. For me, its back to REI.

I used this for the first time on a camping trip in north Georgia. I'm always cold. This bag was warm and comfortable. The zipper does snag, but the material doesn't rip!

Comments about REI Halo +25 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
This sleeping bag is quite comfortable to the touch, packs very small, not a bad weight for it's rating, and is warm.
I havn't really tested the bag in really cold weather, but I have tested it above 10,000 feet and in temps between 32 and 45 degrees.
I am 5'11" and 150 lbs. so I am a thin guy with not a lot of insulation of my own. The lenght of the bag is more than enough for me and roomy. I sleep totally naked in the bag, and I am ALWAYS sweating in it and having to keep the zipper down a bit to vent. The bag, i feel would probably be perfect at its set rating in my opinion, but everyone has their own unique comfort levels.
As for the down leakage issue most have reported on this bag, I have seen this to be true as well. My stuff sack, backpack, tent, and sleeping pad are always riddles with down deathers from the leakage. This to me, is the bags main flaw.

Comments about REI Halo +25 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I did significant research before buying this bag comparing it with the Marmot Pinnacle and others, I opted for the HALO because the Pinnacle I thought might be too warm for summer and the price was very nice. The bag stuffed down great, about the size of a large cantalope with a compression sack. The bag material is soft and cozy and super light weight. I just spent two nights Kayaking in Prince William Sound and the weather was great so the bag was perfectly snug at 42 degree nights. No complaints there. However, on the morning after the first night I noticed more feathers in the tent then I thought acceptable so I inspected the bag. The seams on the outside of the hood were coming unstitched. This was on its maiden voyage. I looked at the rest of the stitching and noticed it was very loose and seemed like I could probably break it with a light tug or snag. I returned the bag when I got back to town and was going to replace it with the same HALO but I looked at the stitching on the rest of the bags in the store, 4 bags, and they were all the same. This seems to be a manufacturing flaw and needs to be dealt with. I exchanged the bag for a Marmot Pinnacle and will take it back out to PWS in a couple of days and give it a shot. As always REI rocks [...] their tents can't be beat for the price, but their sleeping bags are far from par.

I have used this on several backcountry aircraft fly-in trips in the Rocky Mountains. Have used it down to +24 degrees in Colorado camping along a trout stream and stayed warm. No issues so far with feathers coming out like other have mentioned. Very lightweight and stuffs easy.

Not only does the zipper snag easily, but the fabric is very delicate and rips when it gets snagged. Must be very, very careful or feathers will fly.

I was lucky enough to find one of these at a recent Garage sale. Picked it up for 10 bucks because there was a rip in the nylon, something about a puncture from a stick. No big deal to fix, especially for the price. However, when I brought it home I found that a seam inside the bag, in a totally different area, had completely come apart. The price was right, but looks like I'm going to need to bring a roll of repair tape if this thing ever comes out of the house.

I wrote a review about my bag. Now for my wifes.
She woke up cold at night, only to find her bag was soaked even though the tent walls were dry as a bone. You need some kind of condensation control
in the fabric. Again way to much down leakage. She will get a feathered friends as i did.
Im sorry in my last reprt {which you ommited alot}What i said must have hurt. Sorry.face the truth. You know what i said about oversea manufacturing.Go across the street and see.The main store on yale knows what i mean. I love ya rei, but the bag has major problems. I have your ASL arete tent and love it. Best tent i ever owned.
