Comments about REI Halo Sleeping Bag:

We bought this bag for a beach trip in early April in Charleston, SC. This bag was for my brother and he had slept in it inside a hammock. He says he was comfortable, not too hot and not cold. It was windy (mid 50's F) at night on this trip but, the bag was good in keeping him from feeling it.

Got this for summer camping to replace a +30 synthetic bag and I am so happy with my purchase. Keeps me a lot warmer than the colder rated synthetic bag and is super comfortable. It's roomy enough to curl into the fetal position inside the bag. Would highly recommend it for summer camping and backpacking.

Comments about REI Halo Sleeping Bag:

This bag is perfect for anyone who hates sweating in overly warm bags.

I have always used 25-30 degree bags in the summer, but hated sweating and being too warm, so i looked around for a 40ish degree bag and after trying quite a few out I am going to stick with this one. Like someone already mentioned, it easily fits in an xs compression sack with room to spare.

The packability of the bag is nice, but what really sold me on it is the warmth and versatility. I always sleep with a lightweight thermal top, and when its cold a thermal bottom. Just like they test the temp ratings. I have used the bag alone, with a pad down to 38 degrees and up to 60 degrees and was very comfortable. A few of those nights were spent in a hammock. I have used it in conjunction with a reactor liner around 30 and was very comfortable. I even slept in this bag with a liner, inside a bivy cover on a pad at around 20 degrees and was fine. I am a warm sleeper, but was still surprised at how warm the bag was even at 20! I even used this bag as a liner inside a military xl wiggy's summer bag (huge 45 degree bag) for a few nights around the 0 degree mark and slept a little too warm. But carrying 2 sleeping bags wasn't fun. I switched it out for my Halo 25, the liner and bivy the next trip around 0.

As for the durability, I take great care of my gear so I don't have any issues. I am also patient with the zipper so it never really snags too badly.

Bottom line, this is a fantastic bag for someone looking to save some weight and have a bag that (with a liner and pad) will work from 30 degrees on up.

Comments about REI Halo Sleeping Bag:

So far, I'm extremely happy with this bag. It packs super small, is very lightweight for the price, and is WARM. My only gripe is the zipper isn't exactly full length, it goes to about mid kalf. I wish it got closer to the foot box as I normally have to keep one foot out for temp control. The zipper can znag, but hasn't been an issue yet just have to learn how to work it without snagging it. Overall, it's an excellent deal for the weight watchers out there that want a summer bag.

Comments about REI Halo Sleeping Bag:

I use this bag in conjunction with a Ridgerest SOLite sleeping pad, and I have got to say the combination is amazing. I have slept (in a tent) on a mountain ridge with this sleeping set up where the temperature (in my tent) was hovering around 40 degrees and the wind was blowing at about 50 mph. The entire outside of my tent was frozen, but I was kept warm all night. I have never had any problems with the zipper, or anything else for that matter, after about 30 nights of use.

Comments about REI Halo Sleeping Bag:

This bag would get an A+ 5 star rating if it had just a little more performance. I use my bag at least 3 nights a week (if not 5) for 4 months strait so I need a versatile, light bag that can handle anything.
1- its VERY light weight. 1.5 pounds. Can't really beat that for a solid bag. Packs down really small too. I have room in my Sea To Summit XS Compression bag for a liner, pillow and "Intelligent Wool" long undies.
2- it seems quite durable. my only problem is that one night, when i got too hot, i slept with my top half out of the bag. I sleep cold but i sweat when im slightly too warm and this sort of "stained" the hood with water spots and oil. I have never had this problem before with any other of my bags.
3- it is very comfortable. The hood has a face baffle that is over the draw string. This makes drawing the hood close EXTREMELY comfy. The full length baffle is great too. The sizing is a tad small but not uncomfortably so. The material feels nice next to my skin too.

My biggest complaint is the warmth. A full length zipper means that you can regulate temp when you get too warm. So why not make this bag a solid 32 or 35 and let us deal with the heat and slightly extra weight? For example, the first night on my last trip, we had rain and gail force winds. I was in an open air cabin (roof, 4 walls but semi-open to the wind). I slept all zipped up without a liner and was fine (temperature was around 47-50 F). The next night there was no rain, just a slight wind and a lower temp of around 43-47 F. I thought with the lack of wind i would be fine without my liner but I ended up having to use it. After that I was fine.
I think this bag would greatly benefit from a solid warmer fill and a stronger DWR.
                Happy Camping!

Comments about REI Halo Sleeping Bag:

This bag packs smaller (with some effort) smaller than my nalgene, which is just awesome. I fit this sleeping bag, my rei short pad, and my rei primaloft soft shell jacket together into my flash 18 bag easily, which proves how small this bag really is. Plus, its quite comfortable to sleep in. One note, you dont have to worry about durablity if you take care of it... duh, if treated right this bag will last, just like any other equiptment. But anyways, it's a great bag and a good design, for the price there isnt much competition with this bag

Comments about REI Halo Sleeping Bag:

This sleeping bag is a great value. Can you get a lighter sleeping bag for the same temperature rating? Yes. Will you find a better deal considering the quality and cost? Very unlikely.

I have been using this bag for just over a year. What I like about it is that it has kept me comfortable in temperatures down into the 30's. REI has done a great job of making a bag that is lightweight, warm, and cheap - especially with a sale! Plus, with the return policy, you can almost never go wrong with any REI product.

I am a touch over 6'4" tall and the long sleeping bag is just about perfect.

I recommend this bag as a solid middle-of-the road bag for 3-season use. If you want to be warmer, just layer up more or get a cocoon.
