Best pad for the price

Just used this pad all across the West in National Parks for car camping and back country camping. It takes 45 seconds to self inflate, and then 2 puffs of air extra makes it super comfy. It takes about 3 minutes to pack up. You have to pack it tight opposite of the vent to squeeze all of the air out, then close the cap, and quickly unroll and re-roll. It comes with a bag that it easily slides into, as well as two velcro straps that you can use to compact it. The pad is very very comfy compared to light weight alternatives. It's the most weight I would take in to back country, but if I'm going to go with a luxury, it's going to be good sleep.

It does the job

I bought a Thermarest pad for my wife, that this one for myself. I am 6'0", 175 and a total side sleeper, and after thorough use, the wife and I traded for a night. While I do like this pad better than the thermarest, I still woke up with sore hips and shoulders. I'm fine after some coffee and moving, but still... Inflating it further, then bleeding off some pressure is better; try it. I think the weight/ size is fine, and packs fine, I guess that is subjective though. All in all, I think it is a good pad. It's no worse than more expensive pads. I think my gripe pertains to pads in general, not thi sparticular product. I would recommend it.

Very Comfortable

Works as described. An REI employee said to inflate the pad upon getting it home, leave it inflated overnight, then deflate it, roll it up for a day or two and re-inflate it to make sure it self-inflates before taking it camping. She also said to blow a few breaths in to get it fully inflated, and to store it inflated at home. When I slept on it, it stayed inflated all night, and is more comfortable than a foam mat and all the air mattresses I've tried. Thank you REI for having helpful employees and products that work!

Best sleep ever.

Whether it be the exhaustion or the comfort this pad provides it has given me some of the best nights sleep. It does seem to slide around the tent while entering and exiting, but I fixed that with four little no-slip pads designed for lamps and the such. Could be that I have my doctorate in packology, I haven't had any issues with bulky roll up or trapped air, as you are packing up take a tent pole and squish the air out... I can get it small enough that it will fit in the drink holders on the sides of my Osprey Stratos 24. Definatly worth the minimal investment, and so far has been comfortable down to 30 degrees.

Nice Pad

I bought this pad to replace the Big Agnes Air core that sprung a leak that I could not find. Anyway, I am a big guy, 6'2" 260 and use this with the Big Angnes Lost Dog sleep system. This is a nice comfortable pad. Open it up and roll it out and let is sit while you set-up camp. After abount 30 minutes, it only takes a few puffs to get it to my liking.I was plenty warm and got a great night sleep on a weekend AT trip in Vermont. It is a littly bulky and is kind of a pain to roll up. I stow it on the top of my pack, but would like to get something to put in my pack. Probably beter for short family type hikes and car camping. I am getting something lighter for my next backpack trip

REI Trekker 1.75 Self-Inflating Pad

I've never used a pad like this one, but I was happy with it. The pad worked as it should, without any problems. The valve was fine after inflating and deflating it 6 times and it took approx. 15 breaths to inflate the pad, easy enough, but far from self-inflating. The velcro straps for the stuff bag were a nice touch, but ideally, it would have been better if they were attached to the stuff bag, instead of loose. Next time, I will look for a thicker and wider pad, for a little more comfort. I used it for a motorcycle camping trip from south CA. to Idaho and I was satisfied with the pad. It packed better than the rubber pads and was smaller to pack and not as heavy as a blow up mattress.

Must-have for cool weather campers

Got this for my son, a cub scout about to cross over to boy scout. Boy scouts in our area camp out monthly, and an REI employee helped identify what gear would be critical for our first November (in Massachusetts) camping trip. This pad really helped keep my son warm and provided some padding as well. It ended up raining and snowing during the trip, but my son was warm all night, thanks, in part, to this excellent pad.

Best. Pad. Ever.

Love this pad.. Granted, I've only used a couple other sleeping pads, the trekker is far & away the best i've slept on. And for the price, you can not beat it. I wanted something comfortable, warm, and not too heavy but didn't want to spend a fortune.. this pad meets all of those criteria. I know it's not the lightest pad on the market, but for the comfort, it's worth the extra few ounces. Also, some posters said it's tough to inflate.. that couldn't be further from the truth. I just open the valve, throw it in my tent, and it's good to go in a few minutes. If you want it a little extra firm, blow a few breaths into it, and you're all set. Overall, I love this pad & would for sure buy it again.

Perfect for protesting.

I purchased this for a couchsurfing trip a year ago. Cost and minimalism was a major factor in my selection. Recently, however, protests in Madison, Wis. have given me cause to sleep on the marble floors of the Capitol building there. This pad surpassed my expectations keeping me warm on the cold marble, comfortable, waking in the morning with no aches or pains, and in the same place on the floor I fell asleep on. Long-term storing directions dictate that the pad should be stored semi-inflated, which, in an apartment, does cause a space issue, but that's something I can deal with.

happy camper

Enough cushioning to keep me warm and dry, which has made nights in the mountains and on the beach a whole lot more comfy. No slipping either! It packs small enough for me (glad for the shorter length, not needing a pad under my feet) and it inflates intuitively and quickly (read: in the dark). Liked it so much, I gave one to my sweetheart as a birthday present. No complaints!
