Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
The Camp Dome 4 is comfortable, roomy, and easy to set up, but after taking the tent down following a 2 day stay, I noticed several slight bends in the tent poles that would bear further examination after the next trip. Following setup on the 2nd outing, I noticed the fly was less taut, actually flapping in the breeze. After take down 2 days later, the fly pole had a pronounced bend, not as a result of bending during set up or take down but simply from remaining set up for 2 days. The tent itself is a real keeper but the poles are of a very soft alloy and much inferior to the poles on my smaller Kelty of a similar design. Bottom line: great tent, lousy poles.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
My first (and so far only) outing with this tent was a real test. I went on a 4-day cycling tour in the deep South. The 2nd night there was a rain storm. The tent kept me totally dry. I could feel about 1" of water underneath the tent. None inside. The 3rd night the rain storm was accompanied by unbelievable winds--much worse. Lots of rain fell--I heard 3 to 6 inches. There was a tornado in the area--yikes! The wind beat the sides of the tent. Again there was a minimum of 1" of water beneath the tent. A little rain blew up under the fly, but other than that I was cozy--if scared to death! I also like all the little loops inside where things can be hung. Great, great tent.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
I chose this tent for desert and mountain car camping. I use other tents for more intense situations, although it would probably do reasonably well. One reason I chose this tent was that it did not have vestibules. I have found that vestibules can harbor yucky bugs and things in desert environments. The only complaints I have are that the tent is unnecessarily tall, but I knew this going in, and that the door nets do not go low enough to see out without sitting up. Sometimes I like to keep an eye on things while laying down and you have to unzip the door(s) a little to get a look out while laying down. This could let those pesky carnivorous gnats in. The tent sheds water like a duck. It's maiden voyage was in a sustained rain. It was so bad we almost slept in the car but decided it (and we) had to get wet and muddy sometime. We were nice and dry and ventilation was great. Mild winds were no problem; have yet to set it up in a real ripper. It also has an unusually pleasant and unobtrusive color scheme. REI's colorist designed a beauty! Get the matching footprint to go with it.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
Great Value for the money. I bought this tent for me and my two sons to use on Y-Adventure Guide overnight camping trips. The tent has withstood condensation at the beach, rain overnight, and 35 MPH winds at Joshua Tree. I have set the tent up alone in about 5 minutes (no wind). Iam impressed with the quality. A queen size air mattress fits inside. Large enough for one adult and two children under 10. Two small if you add the 4th person. If weight is not an issue, this is a great tent that is very stable in the wind compared to others. Might be a bit heavy for backpacking but a great budget buy.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
I'd been eyeing this tent for a while because of it's low weight and packed size to set-up size ratio. My girlfriend and I typically fly to wherever we're camping so we need something that we can put in a duffel that won't weigh us down, but we also like to be able to spread out and have plenty of room. When it went on sale, my girlfriend snatched it up and gave it to me for my birthday. We took it to Hermit Island in Maine in mid-June '09 and (naturally) we had 2 inches of rainfall over the course of nine hours. Our tent stayed dry as a bone while everyone else at our camp site was literally floating inside their own tents. The ventilation was spectacular and we had zero condensation. I didn't notice any bending of the poles, but this was the first time we set it up (for three days.) It's a breeze to set up, I can do it myself in about 5 minutes. The fly performed admirably. It has loads of room inside and packs down to nothing considering how large it is when it's set up. I highly recommend it for people who want a large-ish tent that's lightweight for duffel bag or car camping.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
I purchased this tent in June 08, hoping that it would provide better rain protection than previous non-REI tents that I have owned. I then proceeded to camp for 35 nights in Quebec, during what turned out to be the rainiest summer on record: not a drop of water got in the tent, which was a blessing. I have since used the tent locally in Missouri, and on camping trips to the Colorado Plateau and Appalachians. It is well-ventilated, spacious, easy to set up and take down. Moreover, it holds up well in the wind. However, my tent poles are now bent a bit, and may need replacing before I venture off for another long trip. Otherwise, the tent has served me extremely well and I highly recommend it. It is good for two people, not four as labeled. Oh, and I like the two-door design, which makes retrieving gear a snap!

Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
This is a great tent. Holds two people comfortably. Just used it on the river's edge in Texas and just weathered a four hour rain fall.
Found two leaks. The door tie down exposed to the outside was getting wet, and the water seeped through to the inside. Both tie downs dripped occasionally, but nothing that a simple towel couldn't handle. The other was the top of the rainfly, where the Velcro attaches to the fly poll. I detached the Velcro and it stopped.
The tent withstanding the heavy wind with ease. My friends tent which cost half of what this tent cost, was fluttering in the breeze like a flag. The REI tent looked like it was built with stone and mortar.
I used this tent 4 times, and I am able to pitch it solo, with the rainfly.

Comments about REI Camp Dome 4 Tent:
I bought this tent during the 08 anniversary sale for a pretty sweet price. I have to say that this is a great tent that is perfect for the tail end of spring through fall.
Setup is very simple. Spread out the footprint, unfold the tent over the footprint, setup your poles and attach the tent to your poles and your set. For some reason though my footprint doesn't fit perfectly with my tent floor...I wonder if that's how it came or if mine is cut slightly off? Either way, I can set it up by myself in about 5 mins. Maybe less with help from my wife.
Once setup, the interior is incredibly spacious for two + 1 pug. If I stoop over a bit (6'), I can even stand and change. Lots of ventilation and haven't had much condensation at either Olympic National Park or along the Washington Coast at various campsites.
My only real concern is that I've never been caught in any real rain. The fly is more like an awning over both double doors. The PNW get's a lot of morning dew so it's mandatory to have the fly set up. If the fly wasn't necessary, there's mesh along the non-door walls from floor to ceiling that would be great for star gazing.
Breakdown is a pleasure. Very simple to fold up and I've never had a problem fitting the folded tent, poles and pegs back in the tent bag. The bag also has a couple of straps to keep everything stored securely. The tent only comes with four pegs. Feel you should have two more at least to attach to the fly and get proper circulation. One thing to note though, if you stake out the fly, you will get a lot of circulation. Can get really cold and breezy in the tent.
Overall, I'm very happy with the tent and think we'll use it for a long long time for car camping.
