Comments about REI Z13 10-30 x 25 Monocular:
I've owned two Brunton monoculars, the Macroscope and Echo Pocket Scope. This REI monocular best them both. It's small and light, it can focus close and to affinity. Because of the small lens diameter the image is not nearly as bright as the Brunton Macroscope. The Macroscope was just too big, I rarely ever carried it. I really like the 10x magnification, the 30x zoom requires that you brace the scope for stability.

Does everything it supposed to. Lots of zoom, and focuses fast.

Comments about REI Z13 10-30 x 25 Monocular:
I bought this to help with inventory-reading small print out of the range of my glasses. I can now read handwritting on an inventory card 30 FEET AWAY! The focus is so clear it is like I am holding the cards in my hand. I can haldly wait for a day off so I can take this little gem into the outdoors.

Comments about REI Z13 10-30 x 25 Monocular:
I need a scope for search & rescue work, and this one showed a lot of promise. Unfortunately it broke the second time I took it into the field. I was glassing a slope, twisted the dial to zoom in to 30x, then tried to zoom out... and the dial was stuck fast. I finally got it to move, but only by uncrewing the entire lens assembly -- and it still wouldn't zoom out to 10x magnification again. 30x is too close and hard to hold steady for most uses, so I took it back to the store. To REI's credit they exchanged it on the spot. This time I got the Brunton Echo. Not as fancy, but much smaller & lighter and costs half as much.

Comments about REI Z13 10-30 x 25 Monocular:
I was looking at the Brunton Echo and this product. Compared side-by-side the Z13 is worth the extra money if size doesn't matter to you. The optics are much more clear and crisp from the 7x of the Echo to 10x of the Z13. However, I had the same issue as an earlier reviewer -- the dial for the 10x to 30x magnification was extremely stiff out of the box and would not move. I took it back, later the same day, since I was not sure if I was missing something simple in the operation of the unit. It turns out that it was just a bad unit. A properly functioning unit will operate very smoothly with an obvious detent at each magnification position. My bad for not checking all the functions,[...]

Comments about REI Z13 10-30 x 25 Monocular:
I didn't want to carry around a large pair of binoculars, so I purchased this to use for scoping things out and looking at wildlife.
Other then the fact that it is a little bigger then other monoculars I haven't had any problems with it. The zoom and focus rings work fine, no sticking with mine.
