Comments about Princeton Tec Amp 4.0 LED Flashlight:

The lamp supplies a good light for the price, but I would spend the extra buck for something more durable. I've had it for a year and have brought it for several camping trips. Now it is broken, the thredding tube is cracked and could not take another hike. I also noticed every time taking it out of the backpack the light was on. A flashlight should not start automatically just by being carried around in a backpack!

Comments about Princeton Tec Amp 4.0 LED Flashlight:

The beam is nice and bright, and I love that I can use my rechargeable AAs in it. The lens cap threads are smooth and it seems fairly well weather protected. But the overall build quality is much less than I'd expect in a [$] flashlight. I've used this thing for camping and around the house and most of the time it performed adequately. After 3 months though it started to behave oddly: turning itself off, not letting me turn it off, no longer allowing the low beam option, not completely turning off, slowly dimming to 20% strength while on for a few minutes. I looked for a product warranty at Princeton Tec's website but couldn't find that they warrantied this unit. I contacted them online to request advice for resolving these issues but I never received a response. Eventually, most of those problems magically disappeared, but this weekend I left it in a backpack in a car outside and I guess the heat was too much for the AAs I had in there. The batteries, electronics, LED, and reflector are all in the same compartment, so when my batteries overheated the resulting leakage wasn't confined to the battery area. The reflector was warped, the lens clouded, the electronics are shot, and the plastic peg holding the lower battery terminals broke off. So now it's officially garbage. Two stars for being bright, compact, lightweight, and giving the appearance of ruggedness.

Comments about Princeton Tec Amp 4.0 LED Flashlight:

The light seemed well constructed and worked perfectly for three months with almost daily use. Then it started to shut it's self off and when I unscrewed the head to investigate, it was apparent that the threaded end of the barrel was breaking away from the case.
Unfortunately the material where the threaded barrel meets the case is too thin too with stand the stress of having the head tightened down on it along with the shock from a normal occasional drop. This is a water tight light and requires that the head be snugged up against the O-ring.
I don't feel that over tightened it or abused it in any way.
I have been some what successful in gluing it back together as long as I back the head off after I use it, other wise after a couple of days it pulls apart again.
