I found these pads a MUST. My first week of snowboarding was on the icy east coast WITHOUT pads. I fell on my tailbone twice and nearly cracked it (I was just standing)! Once I got them, I wasn't afraid to fall anymore which opened up my ability to learn again. I don't even notice the pads on the slopes. I usually wear them over a thermal base layer. You would think these pads would FEEL bulky but no. I actually find them very comfortable and still wear them REGARDLESS of conditions because...hey..you can still fall hard anywhere, anytime. Additionally, they provide nice comfort when sitting down to strap in all day long. My only complaint is in the small handles: pulling on the pads begins to rip the handles from the very delicate waist band. I would like to see the new version have this area reinforced. All in all though, GREAT pads!

This is a great product for any first timer, and who knows maybe even someone a little more advanced that falls alot. I live in a place where snowboarding is done on ice so this help protect my tailbone.

I have yet to find good padded shorts for a slender guy. Every time they fit in the waist, the legs are too large and the pads slide around. I don't know why its so hard to design them to fit more like biker shorts.
