The Marin Point Reyes bike is a stealthy urban ride that is mountain bike tough yet nimble enough to quickly steer you clear of city hazards.

  • Lightweight 6061 aluminum frame features a gusseted headtube for reinforced rigidity and precise steering control
  • Hydroformed top and down tubes are triple-butted for exceptional strength and performance, and the added bonus of weight savings
  • RFE carbon fork dampens road vibrations to reduce fatigue; fork also accepts panniers
  • Shimano Deore derailleurs and shifters supply quick shifting through all 27 gears
  • Hayes MX-4 mechanical disc brakes are clean, simple and reliable in all kinds of conditions; you'll be able to stop when you need to, even if it's raining
  • Keep rolling on and off road with durable WTB SX24 rims fitted with Continental Sport Contact tires;
  • Street-smart locking quick releases offer the security similar to bolted axles with the convenience of quick-releases

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

      Comments about Marin Point Reyes Bike - 2009:

      I love this bike. Have ridden a Specialized StumpJumper and Trek 2200 for a bunch of years and wanted an on road alternative that was lighter and rolled better than the Stumper and was more comfortable than the Trek. This bike is extremely light, climbs like a monkey and is very nimble. I still get dusted by the spandex brigade on their road bikes but love the way this bike rolls along. The saddle is extremely comfortable, the shifters are solid, and the brakes haul this bike down just like my motorcycle--fast and stable. On top of the high-level performance, I love Marin designs: innovative and very pleasing to the eye.

        Comments about Marin Point Reyes Bike - 2009:

        I love the look of the bike and the components are good (except the brakes). Pedaling is very smooth. In 4 days I've put 150 miles on the bike. Every 8 miles or so I have to stop and adjust the brakes 'cause they rub and/or squeal. I have 6 bikes and this is the only one with brakes that rub.

        This will be the last bike I buy with disc brakes. I'd rather have a coaster brake bike than endure the maintenance required for disc brakes. Maybe its the Hayes brakes? Based upon what I've read, tho, I think it's a characteristic of disc brakes in general.

          Comments about Marin Point Reyes Bike - 2009:

          My 10-year old FS Homegrown finally got to the point of not worth maintaining so I was looking for a bike for commutes, cross training (I'm a runner) and riding along side my wife on her long runs. I'm getting 70-80 miles per week on it with those uses. Surfaces are mostly city streets and paved paths with a few miles of packed gravel or dirt.

          The bike is surprisingly smooth at speed despite the light weight. Design and craftsmanship of the frame are top-notch. The components are nice, though decidedly a step down from the full XTR setup I'm used to. Hopefully there will be a tradeoff in durability.

          The disc brakes are a lot nicer than standard brakes. The only problem I've had is in trying to perfectly align the disc between the pads when reattaching the wheels. The bike is too fast for group rides with others on hybrid bikes to be worthwhile and too slow to keep up with others on road bikes, but as a commuter, pack mule and comfortable means of getting in some extra cardio work it's great.

          Service and delivery comments:

          I was happy with the assembly performed by the REI service staff.
