A tough, light 6061 aluminum frame and the right amount of suspension make the Marin San Rafael an easy choice for commuting, fitness and having fun.

  • Lightweight 6061 aluminum frame is constructed to increase strength while offering weight savings; shaped seatstays and chainstays improve ride quality
  • Spinner Odessa Mag suspension fork dampens road shock with 63mm of travel; also features lockout adjustment
  • 48/38/28 triple crankset and 11-32 cassette provide all the gears required for fun, swift cruising and efficient hill climbing
  • Shimano Alivio shifters and C-100 front and Alivio rear derailleurs provide responsive, smooth shifting through all 24 speeds
  • Linear-pull brakes with modulation let you ease in the braking power for controlled deceleration
  • WTB rims, alloy hubs and Kenda Kwest tires provide an efficient ride that rolls up to speed quickly
  • WTB Comfort V saddle provides the ergonomic support and cushioning required for day-long riding; suspension seatpost prevents minor bumps from jostling the saddle
  • No special shoes required—platform pedals accommodate a variety of casual shoes
  • Specs are subject to change

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Marin San Rafael Bike - 2009:

This is my first new bike in 35 years. I bought the 2008 model last summer after spending a month researching and riding many different bikes. I kept coming back to the San Rafael because it just seemed to fit me well. I started riding for exercise and now I commute to work @17 miles a day.
I like the smooth, easy shifting, load carrying ability, and the performance on both rough roads and trails.
I've added a rear rack, trunk bag, lights, and a mirror.
Over all, I'm very pleased with this bike.

Comments about Marin San Rafael Bike - 2009:

I got this bike about a week ago, as a gift. And I love it!!

It rides smooths, shifts smooth. Has a great feel to it.

The bike is light weight for all that it has too. The heaviest part of the bike is my lock and the fenders I installed for this Seattle Weather.

The shocks in the seat and forks are great too, makes riding smooths, but if you ever need to ride fast or uphill, the fork shock can lock out, which is a excellent feature.

If you are looking for a bike to use for many different things. Commuting, casual riding, and work outs. This bike makes it easy.
