Comments about Marin Fairfax Bike - 2009:
I'm a complete novice when it comes to bicycling. I haven't ridden a bike before this since I was like 10 or something. I bought this bike to ride casually and I think it's perfect for that.
From the research I did when I was buying it, I found out the components aren't the best you could get for the money. Basically what you're paying for is the Marin name and maybe the carbon fiber fork. This was fine with me because I really fell in love with the appearance of this bike (as shallow as that sounds) and I didn't need top notch components because I am a VERY casual rider. (For example, I tried to ride some bikes with better components, which included gear shifters that didn't have numbers designating what gear I was in, and I ended up being very confused.)
Anyway, this is a great bike, but you can get more for your money by purchasing like a Novara or something.

Comments about Marin Fairfax Bike - 2009:
After the LA River Ride and the LA Fun Ride, I wanted a bike that would be easier to ride than my mountain bike. I rode two bikes at REI, and this one felt immediately easy to ride. I have since done several LA River Bike path rides including up to Griffith Observatory. I am no expert rider, but I made it. I love this bike. My only down side would be the rear brake is noisy; although I have not had my tune up yet, and they can probably fix that. The brakes work fine -- just noisy.

Comments about Marin Fairfax Bike - 2009:
i decided to get a bike for commuting and fun rides and had a budget of $600ish. i looked at some other bikes in this price range before discovering that the marin was on sale. i was so stoked to get this bike for what i could afford. it rides like a dream, the brakes are perfect, and the carbon fork makes even atlanta roads feel smooth and comfortable. i outfitted her with a pair of plante bike's freddy fenders, and she is ready for whatever the road or the weather can throw at me.
