Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
Overall this is an excellent light. The lithium battery/LED combination result in a very small and lightweight package. I mounted both the lamp and battery on my helmet and it's completely comfortable during my 45-min. commute.
Comparing this to my older version with a conventional 15W bulb and NiCd pack, I'd say that the LED light gives only marginally less total illumination (~5-10% less) than the standard bulb, but the beam is *piercing* and is more than adequate in truly dark situations. Also, the LED is SUPER visible from a distance and this is a big deal dark and rainy.
Charge time is short (4-5 hrs) and the USB charger is very convenient, which allows commuters to have a charger at home and at work. The lithium pack is quite light. Not once has the lamp dimmed in use.
My only complaint is with the helmet mounting set up. The lamp is mounted to the pivot bracket by means of a rubber ring. NOT a good idea. I'm concerned the ring will eventually fail with natural deterioration. I hope they sell replacements. Also, lack of a "hard" mount means that sometimes the light will migrate, even with the smallest, tightest clamp ring. (I occasionally need to readjust the beam while I'm riding, which is inconvenient.) NiteRider really should have kept the old-style ratchet mount.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
Pros:
I use this light as a helmet mounted light in conjunction with a NightRider MiNewt X2 on the bars for off road rides. The light is light enough to have both light and battery on the helmet, gives a good beam in the direction your looking and has a reasonable battery time. With both the battery and light on the helmet it is very easy to turn on and off (handy when you stop to talk, so you aren't blinding the person you are talking to) and can be easily adjusted while on the move.
Cons:
even though it is in the Minewt family of lights, the battery connectors and chargers are different so cannot be inter-changed and unlike the X2 it doesn't have the tell tall light in the switch or on the lamp unit so you can see battery level/ charge status.
All in all, a good light on it's own for a commute or in conjunction with a bar mounted light for off road.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
Maybe I'll grow to like this light after I figure out how to install it. For now, I'm stuck having to hunt the web for installation instructions. The instructions included with the product are a joke - jumbled images with no order of steps, completely zero mention of how to mount the battery or how to mount the entire light on a helmet. For a $100+ light (or any product), having this little regard for the customer's time and installation experience indicates a horrible, horrible company in my opinion.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
I commute in MN where it is dark on the way to work and home this time of year. This light is as bright or brighter than any of the four previous rechargeable lights I have had. For the price you will not find a more functional light. For the helmet, I love the fact that I can mount the whole thing right on the helmet, battery and all. It is light enough where that is not a problem. No more cable down my back! And I can just leave it all on the helmet. No need to remove it to recharge, I just bring my helmet in the house and connect the recharger to the battery. It recharges in a different port than used to connect the battery to the light, so I can even secure the light cords to the helmet so they don't flap around. Plus no daily plugging and unplugging the cable which tends to weaken them over time. The USB mount makes it very convenient to recharge at work. I just bring the USB connector to work and leave the standard AC recharger at home.
The elastomer band mounting system also provides much flexability for mounting on the handlebars over cables or in tight spots between computer and break levers, etc.
I did get a little confused attaching the light to the helmet mounting mechanism. The band threads through the plastic piece. Duh once I figured it out.
I am very impressed with the design of this light.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
I've used this light for three nights now, in rainly dark Eugene, OR and so far so good. I thought I'd try this light first, and if needed buy more lights later for my handlebar. I may not need them after all.
I wanted a helmet mounted light I could easly shine where I needed, and prevent accidently leaving on my handlebars. I liked the flexibility of mounting the battery pack on my helmet or in my jersey pocket, or on the handlebar - but I've found that it's a bit heavy to have on my head for more than 20 minutes or so. Plus the idea of a leaking broken battery dripping into a wound isn't a great image. I don't want to defeat the purpose of my helmet all together!
For the price, you can't beat this headlight. It does a pretty good job illuminating the wet pavement even in areas with lots of overhead street light and passing cars. Right now I have this mounted on my helmet and a blinking Planet Bike headlight on my handlebars.
It does a great job of getting everyone's attention, but most of all it lets ME see everything - cars, pedestrians, other cyclists (who don't have lights!), branches and other fallen objects, potholes, etc. How did I ever get along all these 15 years of bike communting?
In just three days of owning this baby, I've had one driver at a stop light roll down his window and ask what the heck I had on my head, "a GPS unit?" and then complement me for being so visable. Then I had a pedestrian shout out, "Hey, that's a GREAT light!".
I'm not thrilled that it takes longer to charge then the time you get out of it. 3 hours isn't much. But, that's what the box says. I have yet to see how it actually shapes up.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
I found the brightness of the light to be superior, however there are no directions for helping to mount to a helmet, not that it should be difficult but the helmet mount is a little tricky.
It also appears that while trying to snap the light into it's mounting bracket that something in the light base broke. When I used the light on my handlebars the light housing shimmied in all directions and will not stay fixed in place. I have to return this one and try another, I hope it's not problematic as I love the safety & visibility I feel from using such a bright light for long (and getting darker) commutes.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
Bought this last winter here in Seattle. I needed something that would really help me see where i was going on my commute home from work. I really like the helmet mounting during the winter. Cars really see you when you move your head to look at them. I also like charging it from my computer while I am at work.
I do wish that this light had a blinking system like the x2 does. I usually ride with another flashing cheap cat eye light up front with this one on my head while commuting.
Overall good light for the money compated to some of the other more expensive lights.

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
Super simple, small, and lightweight front light with a flawless, bright beam. I bought one for my daughter because we do a lot of long night rides together and I'm thinking of getting one for myself to replace my heavier and larger HID light.
I'm still not convinced I like the light's handlebar mount because it's too easy for it to come undone, but it's certainly easier to use than most light mounts.
I don't recommend the helmet mount, it's too bulky and the strap ends point up to the sky making you look pretty goofy.
If you plan on mounting on the handlebar this is a tiny, unobtrusive light that puts out a lot of lumens for its price, size, and weight. We also use it on night hikes and it's very convenient.
I don't understand the concern people have about the instructions for this light. It's a battery, a switch, and a light bulb. What's so confusing about that?

Comments about NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB Plus LED Bike Light:
The product is very light and easy to use. I love the fact that I can charge it by the wall socket or by USB. I had started with a $30 cateye headlight and was not noticed by cars as soon as I started using my new night rider, cars can totally see me coming from the distance.
