Comments about Motorola T9680RS Two-Way Radios - 2 Pack:
The primary purpose for buying these radios is to provide easy communication with my associates while participating in various, non-professional, outdoor activities. If you want/need professional equipment, these are not the units to buy. Some reviewers of this type of radio complain about the delay in transmit/receive - well, that is characteristic of virtually all radios; they simply ARE NOT duplex communication devices and you have to learn to work with the delay. Once you do, you will find these radios provide an efficient method of communicating - often more convenient than cell phones - especially when in areas of no cell phone coverage. Here are a few (what I consider minor) issues:1) The VOX sensitivity could be a bit better - you really must learn to position the hands free device to maximize pickup of your voice.2) The NiMH batteries (on first charge) provided about four (4) hours of comm - not quite the nine (9) hours touted by the manufacturer - maybe AAA batteries are the better way to go.3) The back/battery cover latch can be caught on clothing or equipment and pop off, thus you lose the cover out in the bush. The manufacturer could make a more secure closure; until they do I strongly recommend purchasing a "holster" to carry the unit in, especially if you want to attach the radio to a pack strap or such.4) When the batteries are low, the alert signal interrupts transmissions; this is annoying at the least and could be quite serious at the worst when communication is critical.Overall, these radios are a very good buy. They aren't perfect, but then nothing is; learn their idiosyncracies, overcome them and enjoy.I purchased two IXCESSORY XTM80V Throat Microphones ([...]) to use with these radios. The throat mic is a must have (in my opinion) as it allows complete hands free operation while reducing 90+ % of background noise. GET THE THROAT MIC - you won't regret it!

Comments about Motorola T9680RS Two-Way Radios - 2 Pack:
We bought these Radios for a recent trip to an amusement park. I realize the 28 mile range advertised for these radios is not realistic, but I was hoping that atleast a couple of mile range in the park would be easily attained. I was wrong. Connectivity was usually possible, but it was very common to lose contact during our conversations. the squelch on these radios is not adjustable and is set so high that your either going to get a clear response, or your not going to get through at all. Hopefully I will get a chance to take these into the woods soon and see how they do when theres not so much steel and metal all around me to block the signal.
The rechargeable battery packs that come with the radios are very weak. In standby mode with less than 5 minutes of transmitting, they only lasted 3.5 hours. Using alkaline batteries on the other hand was a much different story. They were used 5 hours a day for 3 days before the battery gauge dropped one notch. This was very satisfactory to me, and is how I will be using them in the future.
The audio quality was a little like talking to someone through a bath towel. Talking directly into the microphone helped a little, but overall it was a little mushy.
In conclusion, Overall, I liked the radios, and compared to the competitors out there, Motorola has done alot to make the radios easy to use. It looses a star due to the mushy audio, and weak range, but overall I would recommend them to a friend.

Comments about Motorola T9680RS Two-Way Radios - 2 Pack:
I bought these radios because of their claims of extended range. Nothing could be farther from the truth. WHEN we could make contact the voice reproduction was terrible! It was just hard to understand what my wife was saying. Sounded like we were down inside a barrel. There were even times when I could see my wife on the trail ahead of me (100 yds. or less) and we could not make contact. I took them back and got a refund. I have since gone back to my T 289's and never looked back. Newer is not always better!
