Comments about G3 Targa Ascent S/S Mountain Telemark Bindings:

I use this binding for both back country and lift-serve skiing. It's telemark function feels the same as the Targa series which I've used for years. I LOVE the free pivot functionality. Makes things a lot more comfortable going uphill. I wish they came with the climbing wire which are an absolute necessity if your climbing anything steeper than 15 degrees. The only design flaw I see is that you cannot easily change the height of the climbing post system. They attach to the top of the climbing post and require a fair amount of work to take out. The result is that I leave them in all the time now which is a minor inconvenience. I also own a pair of Black Diamond 01 bindings that have 2 sets of climbing wires which is a little nicer. I cannot tell a difference in the performance between the two. They both ice up on occasion. I'll never go back to the non pivoting bindings again. This function is definitely worth the extra ounces. All other things equal, I'd probably buy the BD's but don't regret buying these at all.
