Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

I love this bag. I have a Vans backpack I've been using since High School (10 years) and it was kind of my all purpose backpack (traveling, youth group retreats, hikes, etc). I've got a separate Samsonite laptop bag that gets even more use (to the office, taking the laptop on trips, etc.). This day pack has been a replacement for both.

It's well-built, has comfortable shoulder straps, slim, and keeps the weight close to your body so that the pack doesn't "sag." It also looks very cool, and every time you put it on it feel like you're going on an adventure. It doesn't have much cushion for the laptop, so I'm just careful when I put it down, and keep it in a neoprene sleeve.

I also like that it's got a list of the Ten-Essentials sown in to one of the pockets, a handy checklist for day hikes or weekend getaways. The water bladder feature is nice as well, and works great with my Camelback Unbottle.

Do yourself a favor and pick up this practical pack for school, work, and adventures.

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

I would highly recommend this pack. I had a NorthFace backpack for ten years, but then my cat threw up on it, so I needed a new one. Picked this little gem up a couple months ago and have been loving it ever since. It holds a ton of stuff and you can tell it's built really well. Waterproof action is also key for when I get caught in those nasty storms...glad I have REI waterproof shoes to go with it :).

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

A really great pack...has tons of pockets to organize everything. Weatherproof zippers on front proved their worth when I took this pack when out on the slopes. The pack got covered in snow but my gear never got wet. The large pocket zippers are a little tough to open since its a curved zipper. Don't let that bar you from getting this pack though.

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

This is a great pack. It will hold 4 -1 liter water bottles and food for a day plus a change of clothes, Ipod and tolietries. One word of caution: if you break any of the plastic hooks or holds you have to unstitch the fabric that holds the plastic to replace it. This is a major hassle if you do not sew and also weakens the fabric, so they may eventually tear off. That being said, I am ordering another pack as I like it better than any other that I have seen. Three zippered pockets in front are great. Just be careful when you take the pack off as that is how you break the plastic- I did by placing the pack on a rock ( actually dropped it about 1 foot but it was fully loaded 10 lbs.)

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

I love this pack. After someone stole my NorthFace Jester, I went to REI looking for a replacement. The staff showed me comparable packs and let me try them on with weight packs to walk around and feel a load. This pack is AWESOME! I have a bad back (scoliosis), and the weight distribution of this pack is amazing. The weight is balanced along my shoulders, back and hips and is so much more comfortable than any pack I've ever had.

There are plenty of pockets and space for the essentials, and room to spare. I love that the pack will hold a water bladder and has ports for the drinking hose.

I use the pack for school(books, binders, paper, pencils, laptop), and adventures, as well as daypack. I've even clipped my tent onto it for overnighters. I just love it

Best Pack I've Ever Owned, I wish had the need for a 2nd, it is amazing!

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

I use this bag for commuting to class and back and it works great. Has a large main compartment that easily holds 3-4 text books. The sternum and waist straps are great at keeping the bag in place when I ride my bike to class instead of walking.

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

Nearly four years of moderate-to-heavy daily use has taken its toll on this pack. The waterproof lining was seriously compromised by the abrasive action of cargo within two years (not a big surprise,) and the water bottle pockets are full of holes but still holding up, although the elastic has weakened and no longer retains my ever-present 32 oz Nalgene bottles as well as before.

The rest if the fabric is still holding together fine with no thin spots, and the straps are as solid as the day I purchased it. I'll keep using it another year or so as my daily commuter pack before it goes into semi-retirement.

This amount of wear is consistent with what I expected from the Traverse and I would strongly recommend picking up one of the closeouts if you need a new daypack. It's rugged, roomy, very comfortable, and multifunctional

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

This is seriously the best backpack i've ever had. I got it 3 years ago, and I use it every day for multiple purposes including (and definitely not limited to): school, traveling, day hikes, biking trips, etc. Basically I have used it for anything and everything since the day I bought it, and it is still in almost perfect condition. I cannot stress how good the craftsmanship is.

The pack is very comfortable. In my opinion, compared to other backpacks, the waist strap on the Traverse works extremely well and is very comfortable. This, along with the bladder compatibility, make it great for day hikes.

In the picture the front looks round or whatever, kind of making it look small. Let me tell you, this pack is exceptionally roomy, and I was able to fit all my clothes and things in it when traveling with family for a week.

Overall, this pack is da bomb, and do not hesitate to buy it - especially if you can get it on closeout sale pricing. I am almost tempted to buy another even though I know I won't need a new one for many many years to come.

Comments about REI Traverse Pack - '08 Overstock:

I purchased this backpack off of REI's website last winter because it was inexpressive and I needed something for an upcoming ski trip. I have grown to appreciate the versatility of this pack - it has become much more than I thought it would be when I first purchased it. I regularly use it for commuting or short trips around town on my bike or motorcycle. I also find it a great carry on pack for air travel. The best feature in my mind is one of the simplest - the adjustable straps on the side allowing me to expand or collapse the pack to an appropriate size (with the ability to collapse down to having nearly no profile). A great all around pack.

My husband used this to carry his laptop and some of our personal items on a recent trip. The backpack fit perfectly under the plane seat. Also, the supports took the weight off of his shoulders, which made walking across airport terminals a breeze.
