Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
I exchanged my regular APEX for the PRO, since my first one leaked water. During a backcountry trip in Utah, night fell before I could reach the main trail, so I pulled out my "reliable" newly exchanged Apex Pro. It wouldn't even turn on!!! I ended up sleeping on a ledge that night since I couldn't see my way back. The next day I hiked out and went to the store to buy fresh batteries. I figured there was no way 2 Princeton Tec headlamps could fail consecutively. Ended up waisting money on the batteries too. I brought it back to REI and I am forever done with the brand.

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
Wow, as an "Outdoor Professional" you think Offrope (other reviewer) would have checked to see if the headlamp worked before going out...
At any rate, I have used this headlamp for 2 years now and am very pleased. This headlamp is the best available for many reasons: it has a true spot light and a true flood light (opposed to having the flip over lens on the MYO XP), is water proof to 3M (petzl's are only water resistant), and is light weight. This headlamp will outperform any others out there from what is currently available. The two downsides would have to be that the hinge on the lamp is made of plastic and could break and that rechargeable batteries do not seem to work with it. If your buying from REI, no worries on the hing issue due to exchange.

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
I have used this headlamp for over a year now. Night flyfishing, hunting and general use outdoors at night and it's fabulous. Lighting is adjustable perfectly to my needs . Long lasting light with flashing signal to tell you when the batteries need to be replaced.
Nothing to complain about. cost is well above some others but you do get what you pay for on this headlamp.
Very pleased!

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
I use a Black Diamond Moonlight as my primary "around the camp" lamp because my Apex puts out *so much light*. The Apex comes out when I'm straying from camp, caught out hiking at night or when I really need to light things up. It can really light up the trail. The only *real* con I can find is that it uses CR123 batteries and rechargeable CR123s from a reputable source have been nearly impossible to find.

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
I used this headlamp for climbing primarily, but hiking, sailing, and biking as well. I never mistreated it or handled it roughly and yet I've worn through two of them now (debating whether or not to get a third) because the hinge that attaches the main lamp body to the headband is strikingly fragile. It always cracks at the join on the underside of the headlamp body, in the same exact spot where the 2mm 'prongs' of plastic extend towards the cylindrical portion of the hinge.
If it weren't for this, it would be the most amazing headlamp ever, but unfortunately with a cracked hinge it just flops up and down and is rather unusable.

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
I have been using this for over four years!
This headlamp uses 123A Lithium batteries which have the longest life but also the highest costs per battery. I have standardized my backpack lights on this battery.
I always travel with this headlamp when in the outdoors. I have used it three seasons of hunting more than 30 days and only just replaced the batteries.
It has been reliable and functional when backpacking and does not interfere with the pack on your back.
Prior to purchase, I had read a review about the headlamp being flimsy and breaking easily. Doing extensive trail blazing through the woods and clearing paths to harvest large game animals, this headlamp has been beat up. I have had it knocked of my head a number of times by tree branches and bushes. This lamp has survived and continues to work!
I would recommend this light over most others. I own 5 headlamps, most others are petzle which are good, but they don't have the features and life of this lamp.

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
Bought this for a night hike retreat. It is one bright light!!! Brighter than my hand held. Had many setting you can play with. My problem with this is the wiring. It stuck out so much it got caught on some branches. If you like the function of the top band and sci-fi looking wires than this is for you. I return this and ended up getting a Tikka Plus2. More than sufficient for my type of activity.

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
I've used this headset for about two years now. I don't hike at night so it's use has been limited to campsite exploration. While the battery life isn't as long as some may prefer, the output certainly makes up for it.

Comments about Princeton Tec Apex Pro LED Headlamp:
The FIRST one was used only a couple of times before I realized the plastic housing was cracked in a couple of places. The headlamp worked GREAT and I didn't think that I had been too rough with it (other than wearing it). So luckily I had no problems with replacing it with another one. BUT I was unlucky when I used it 2 to 3 more times when I noticed the same problem with the new one. I thought about getting another one, but having the same problem twice was too much for me.
I don't think I could have taken better care of this product other than keeping it in the package.
