Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
I purchased this product for a trip to Africa - it does not work. The UK plug does not fit and the Europe plug is misaligned. When I tried to plug it in (with not that much force), the mechanism broke and now 2 of the plugs cannot be extended. I never got a single day of use out of this. The material is flimsy and the product is not well designed or made.

Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
Just plug in you device from any country in to one end. Then slide out the required prongs from the other end, and your away. One of the UK prongs became a bit wobbly after minimal use but it still works fine. This product has surge protection and lights to show that the socket is working. But one day I decided I'd get a spare fuse if it blows, just in case. I realised i couldn't for the life of me find where to access the fuse compartment. YOU CANT CHANGE THE FUSE! very strange, cos if it blows the device is now dead? I have another one of these type devices where you can change the fuse.
Other than this, the device has worked fine when i was in Europe and Australia, and i still use it on some foreign appliances i have.

Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
I bought this for a trip to Kenya, which uses the UK style outlet. The UK option on this product does not fit the outlets. Also, the part where you plug your appliance into the adapter is poorly made, as well. I can't even fit a standard North American plug into it.

Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
i used this thing to charge my netbook, cell phone and gameboy (not at the same time) for a month in south america. i successfully used this in colombia (bogota), peru (lima, cusco), argentina (BA, rosario, iguazu), brazil (sao paulo, rio, florinopolis) and all along the coast in uruguay including montevideo.
everyone seemed to have some variation of this plug from all over the world. it's a very popular design. the REI model had two major pluses compared to every single competing product (I saw at least 15 variations of this) -
1) the sliders for the various plugs don't break. other models the sliders would stick and break, or the clutch would break and they wouldn't stick at all. i fiddle with stuff all the time (especially sitting in airports) and my power adapter probably has 40 hours of fiddling with those sliders. it still works fine.
2) other model plugs have a tendency to fall out of well used plugs. hostel plugs get a lot of use. probably 20 plug/unplug cycles a day from power hungry travelers, every day, 365 days a year. especially the plugs closest to the hostel bar. i could use the old, unused plugs that nobody else could use because my plug would stay in the socket, where other people's converters would fall out whenever someone closed the door.
most recently i took this with me to mexico and Guatemala and had zero issues with it as well. i'll be buying another as a backup (the old one is almost two years old at this point) for future trips.
the only thing I would add is to offer this model with an optional second plug. i ended up buying a 1x3 plug so i could have three devices plugged in at the same time

We have bought 2 adapters for my son living in Africa. The first one worked for 7 months before being stolen. The 2nd one worked for 2 weeks before it stopped working.

I used the adapter 1 day and it worked/fit fine. The next day the fuse blew and there is no way to reset or replace. Did not work at all after that.

Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
This all-in-one plug adapter is a nice concept which was not well executed. The Europe plug worked OK but the UK plug didn't fit into any of the outlets where I tried it - the pins were slightly misaligned. After a couple of tries the mechanism which switches between plugs failed, and now it can't extend any of the plug types.
I've been much happier carrying an array of smaller single-function plug adapters around. They fit their target plugs well and are much easier to use.

Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
I bought this for my wife while she is travelling in Europe. Needed something to plug her laptop into. She found it easy to use, and worked fine for 3 days.
Then her roommate borrowed it to plug in her hair dryer which she "thought" was dual-voltage. Wrong. Now the adapter is totally useless because the 6 A fuse inside blew out. You can't reset it and you can't replace it. So now, it's useless junk.
Why would REI build a product (or at least put its name on one) where:
(A)packaging does NOT include any product documentation, nor any details on the 6A fuse.
(B) you can't either reset the switch, or find a replacement for it? I've seen surge protectors on power strips that are smaller than a dime ... you can reset that in a second. But that feature is not included here.

Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
I bought this for one primary reason: I am traveling in Europe for business and need to plug in my MacBookPro to charge it. Most computers nowadays can run on either 110 or 220 circuits so you do not need the power converter. It is easy to find power adaptors such as this one but this is the ONLY one that I have found that will accept the US three prong plug! For the Mac laptops, this is important because in order to use the 2 prong plug you lose the extension cord and you have to plug the power brick directly into the power adaptor. Sometimes the outlet is too close to the floor or furniture to allow the brick to plug into the spot. So, this adaptor solves the space problem, allows the use of the longer cord with the 3 prong plug AND is space saving and sturdy. A winner for my needs.
As the earlier review says, this is NOT a power converter so will not work with most US appliances but works great for using with a computer.

Comments about REI Multination Travel Adapter:
I have used this adapter in Bahrain, Saudi, and the UAE in the Middle East and so far so good. Also works with converting a Middle East / Europe plug into an American style plug. Keep in mind this is an adapter, not a converter, nor does it have a ground. Although the surge protection is a nice thing to have while running a laptop off the adapter.
