disapointed
When I bought these boots for my active boy in 5/09, I wanted to sing it to the sky how terrific they were. Warm enough for winter here in the Pacific Northwest, yet not too hot for a rainy day in June of which we had fewer this year. Soft, flexible, fairly lightweight for a rainboot and immediately wearable ... I figured he'd get this coming winter out of them (he just turned five). Imagine my dismay and despair then late last month when I saw both heels worn down to the under-layer. They are not leaking yet but it's only a matter of time. I still think the design is smart, the neoprene/rubber combo -- just disappointed in the durability of the rubber, especially for the price.
one year later
Just an update since my initial somewhat disaPPointed review pops up first for this product (and my revised, more positive review is hard to find down the list of reviews): the replacement boots -- that were readily and graciously shipped to us by BOGS almost a year ago when I contacted them directly to let them know about our experience with their boots for kids for which we'd had such high hopes -- have lasted much better and I STILL think they are the perfect storm of a boot for kids here in the Pacific Northwest, serving as year round rain and snow boots.
Wears quickly
We bought these for my 4 year old son after he outgrew his last pair of rain boots. We expected two summers out of them and maybe be able to hand them down to the younger son, like we have with his other rainboots. But they wore out within the first summer! The sole is soft which might be fine for playing in the mud, but they are too soft for jumping in the puddles in the sidewalk and street. They wore out too quickly. It would have been nice if they didn't have the handle holes either. They were'nt needed for pulling the boots on and they effectively lower the boots water-resistant height. My son did think they were confortable.
Not the quality I had hoped for
I am suprised and disappointed in my experience with BOGS. I bought my daughter her first pair of BOGS Glosh in November of 2013. They had a hole in the heal by January, which was letting in water. Granted she wore them almost exclusively given the extremely cold weather this winter but I expected them to last at least one season. After some back and forth BOGS did issue a gift card to replace them, which we did with the Sweet Pea Classic Kids. We have had them less than a month and the flower pattern is already rubbing off on the foot. These boots are warm and water proof, which is great, and my daughter loves them, but I'm not happy with their durability.
Great product.
Purchased for my 5th grade son. Live in Michigan. Was fed up with rainboots that slit apart, and seemed hard for my son to run around in during recess (not supportive enough). Also, we get a lot of wet snow and mud here. These boots worked for both winter & rain & mud conditions. I could see that my son could move around much better than in the "typical" style you'd get at a box store. They are well worth the price & seem durable to pass on to my younger child. The "handles" were no problem. They make it easier to carry them & put on. I will buy nothing but Boggs from here on.
Perfect boot for your playful kid
We can't get enough of these boots! My kids (3, 4 and 6)wear them everywhere! They wear them while running around on our property, in mud, at the coast in sand and cold ocean water, in the snow, in the woods, on walks, even to the grocery store and sometimes to school. This boot has a thick rubber bottom that is well cushioned for all day play! It's great in all different environments and keeps their feet warm and dry. They can easily slip them on and off and over their pant legs. The fun design and vibrant colors are just another added reason why my kids gravitate towards them! These Bogs° boots are lightweight enough for them to easily climb and run in. Best boot for sure!
Nope, disappointed
We had these for two months and live in the Midwest. They have almost no traction. My 4 year old slips constantly on the smallest amount of ice or hard snow. I actually think they are a hazard on the preschool playground. The liner fell out the first week and it's thinner than the liner for our cheap rain boot from the big box store. Extremely disappointed, these are expensive and I expected quality.
still awesome on 3rd kid!
Bought 1st pair 3 years ago for my then 3 year old. That pair was used by him for one year, by my next child for one year, now onto my 3rd child! I keep buying for my oldest and handing them down. On 4th pair!!! (oldest now 6). My kids use these daily from October through April and they have worn great for me. Good for rain and warm enough for hours of snow play too. My kids can put these on themselves starting at about 2 years old! Helpful when trying to get out the door with 3.
Very Happy, Again
This is my son's second pair. Bought the first pair a size to big and lasted two winters. Just bought this one a size and half too big and hopefully will last two winters again. My 5-yr old does not seem to mind(he'll wear thick socks if he wants!). He specifically wanted RED boots for winter and we love these boots. Everything is easy about them; putting on/taking off, cleaning, etc. And the best is I've never heard a complaint about cold feet. I gave away the old pair and they still looked new and were in perfect shape; lucky next kid! Would recommend for any kid, young or old.
More beautiful in person!
My 6 year old wears these every day at school as she is outside roaming the forest for two hours each morning. This is her third year in Bogs, and has never come home complaining of her feet being cold (in fact, she complains of her feet sometimes getting sweaty - especially when she's in thicker wool socks), nor has she ever had to change her socks due to them being wet. She drags her heels, but these boots hold up without a problem, even for multiple years. The purple Sweet Pea colors are so vivid and bright! An absolutely gorgeous color combo. Not too flashy, but not bland or dull - great for getting through those gray winter months. Regardless of print, I highly recommend these boots! Well worth the money. Thanks bogs!
