        merino wool is very good at keeping warmer feet from getting as sweaty and smelly!
        it is not as itchy as wool sweaters are, just so you know.
        it fits around the toe better than normal socks...tapered!
        i like the colors too...it coordinates well with my Mion's!

          On the clerk's recommendation I bought several pairs for the Camino de Santiago. The idea of ventilation on the top of the socks appealed to me becasue my feet tend to get hot and sweaty very fast. But the top of these socks gets abrasive when sweaty, and rubbed the tops of my feet raw to the point of developing scabs, not blisters. I solved the problem by wearing large patches of moleskin on my instep, but that sort of defeats the purpose of the extra ventilation these socks are supposed to provide. And I was stuck with them for daily use on a very long trip. They will be fine for short day hikes but definitely not worth the extra money.

          Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

            Just got these in a medium to wear with my North Face Valdez snow boots at the recommendation of the ski boot people. I wear anywhere from a 6.5-7.5 in womens and my boots are a 7, so I went with the medium. I could easily pull an extra inch in the back and when you're having problems with heel slippage, that doesn't work so well. So I will be going back and exchanging them for a small, but I will probably buy another pair at that time.

              Super comfy. Cute. Best socks ever. Socks are usually too big on me, with the heels riding up too high. I love that these socks come in sizes, so I was able to get a small size for my small feet. I use them for hiking and day to day use in colder weather. I have not used them for running, but I think my feet would get too hot. Smartwool does have thinner socks though, that could be perfect for running, just have not tried those yet. Some reviews have stated that the socks shrink a lot in the dyer. I found that the socks did look smaller after coming out, but they stretched right back to where they should be when I put them on.

              I use this pair of socks while I hike in a cool/cold temperature and would wear them again! These socks have a bit of cushion which makes them very comfortable to wear. I usually have sweaty feet, but these pair keep my feet dry and warm, which is a wonderful combo. While I hiked in the snow, I used both of this pair and another pair of thin polyester socks. They worked well together, so I'm glad that I can use this pair for both occasion. I would buy more socks. My advise for new users, hang dry them after washing to minimize the shrinkage. :)
