    I purchased four of these lights and put them in my saddle wedge for night riding. I commute to work in all seasons and weather, sometimes late in the evening/morning. My wife is very worried about me on the bike so I have decked myself out in many lights. I use them in conjunction with a headlight, taillight, and a Nite Ize Clip-on Marker. The Nite Ize work very well in low light levels and wonderfully in very dark conditions. I get stopped about once a week by someone admiring my lights, including the local law enforcement. They add a lot of side visibility and can clearly be seen from quite a distance.

    There are only two real drawbacks to these lights. One, they are a little on the heavy side for a road rig, and are somewhat difficult to balance especially when running at high rpm. They can cause your wheel to throb with the weight, but that is easily remedied by having more than one unit per wheel. Two work well but I think three might be even better.

    The second issue is really only a problem in very low light levels. They create a lot of light. They illuminate not only the wheel but a good portion of the frame and the road. This is a very good thing for visibility, however, this can hurt you if you use a low light front marker. The flashing light does remove some of your night vision capability. If you use a high power headlight I doubt that it will affect you, but if not just try to not look at the pretty lights.

    All in all I love them, they only take a couple seconds to install/remove, and make me feel far safer at night (As well as make my wife happy). Remember, Be Safe, Be Seen!

    One final note. All of the Nite Ize products I have had a battery saving demo function built in that must be deactivated or they would just turn off in 30 seconds. This is not a defect in their manufacture. It is all explained on the package and their website.

    While these are by no means a replacement for good front and tail lights, they are very eye catching. The fun colors combined with the novelty tend to get people looking. And being noticed as a cyclist is key. Kids point and stare and other cyclists constantly ask where I got them. Today someone said it looked like I was "glistening".

    The only downside is the directions are really bad. If you use them as a guide to mount the lights, they make it harder because the lights won't fit on your spokes the way they look in the pictures. Chuck the directions and just pop the lights in. Even though each light has two spoke-slots on the back, this is deceptive because the spacing and angles of the slots won't match up with most wheels. So just click each light onto *one* spoke and then place the wings behind the adjacent spokes. I haven't had a problem with the lights coming off. Though I did need to do some adjusting to find a good location so they wouldn't interfere with the sensor for my bike computer and wouldn't catch on anything as the wheel rotates.

      I have been using these for almost a year now, and have had no problems. They are easy to mount as they just slide right up in between your spokes, and lock in place with the pressure of the spoke tension. They turn on easily, alert drivers and everyone else that you are there. The only down side is that you have to stop and explain what they are frequently. I have the Blue ones (not sold at REI unfortunately), and they look great when riding. There are two settings, blinking or steady, and both are great for visibility (I have removed my reflectors from my rims after getting these as they work so much better). Batteries are easily changed and they are water proof. If you follow the directions (written on the package) they are easy to use for the initial use (they must be taken out of display/trial mode before intial use, but only requires holding down the power button until they blink rapidly, about 10 secs.). I have no idea what the other reviewers were talking about on the difficulty of initial use/installation, as they are extremely intuitive on installation, and the instructions could be understood by a trained monkey. I am so happy with these that I bought a set for my mother, brother, and nephew. I not only would recommend them, I have recommended them to several people I know who ride in the dark.

      Actually have order this twice.The first time I received the Spokelit, there was no light! and no instruction!!! Had no ideal why it wouldn't work except maybe the battery was dead. So I send it back and promptly got a new replacement at my cost of 2 plus dollars for postage. Still, the instruction was useless, but nevertheless, I was able to work this thing on after lot of trials and errors. And I like it!!!!! It supplemented my existing lightings I have on my bike. I do hope tho, that the batteries will last a while. For the sake of safety, yes I will get another one!

      As I said in my previous comments, the spokelit did not work and with no instruction. The second spokelit did work and has a useless instructions. It took me a while to make the light stay on and stay on.

      My SpokeLit, bought last year, came with two CR2016 disc-style batteries, which for me wore out quickly in the "steady" mode. Each battery costs about $4, so I tried replacing these with a single CR2032 battery, which is the same depth as two CR2026's stacked and also $4. Has worked fine in the year since, no product malfunction or overheating. Both battery types are 3 volts output but the 2032 size lasts way longer and is 1/2 cost.

        3 out of the 5 lights I've purchased do not work correctly: The bulb burnt out on one and the other two have become very dim after only about 2 months of daily night commuting. I am very disappointed with this company. All this having been said, when they work correctly, they look really cool and you will be the envy of your friends. Buyer beware [...].
