Comments about Oboz Firebrand Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
First off this is a superb fitting trail shoe. I was initially a bit hesitant to purchase these shoes due to Oboz being a relatively new shoe company. After quiet a bit of research of the shoe and the company itself I decided to take a chance and try Oboz out for myself and I'm glad I did.
The fit out of the box is outstanding for my foot. The shoe/boot is narrow in the heal and seems to have a nice heal pocket that locks my heal in place to prevent heal slippage. The toe box is generous similar to Keens without being sloppy. I bought a ½' size up and the fit is spot on with my Thorlo hiking socks. I don't need an insole with these shoes as there is plenty of support and comfort. I have experienced no ill effects of the stock boot upon my feet thus far. It is nice not having to use an insole for a change; it impresses me that Oboz have decided to provide a good insole for the price point.
The rock plate is nice and ridged without being too stiff. One gripe that I have with many other lightweight hiking shoes is that they lack a suitable rock plate so you end up feeling the sharp rocks and other protrusions on the trail through the boot. With the Oboz, this is not the case and there is no chance of bruising the bottom of your foot with these. Additionally, it is also nice to have a more ridged plate for when you need to you need to use only a portion of the tip toe to get a grip of something, the shoe stays nice and firm offering reassurance of your foot hold.
The tread of this shoe is really phenomenal for a shoe in this class. The tread is nothing short of amazing, it is aggressive, sticky and flexes well. The grip is fierce and deep to stave off wear and provides the best traction I have found in this class of shoe/boot. I like the wide tread platform under the heal to help lesson the chance of twisting my ankle, as the wider the better for my supination style of walking. There is even tread that rolls up the side of the shoe, and is great for when you have to scramble over rocks or stream cross.
The toe is protected by a generous rubber/plastic toe cap/rand. The metal eyelets offer assurance that they won't' break or tear out of the shoe in the backcountry. The eyelets extend rather far down the toe similar to an approach shoe, this detail lets you fine tune your lacing around your foot. A great cross over feature that has been overlooked by other manufacturers.
The stitching of the shoe is very good on par with the other "top brands" and I have found no flaws. The waterproof membrane seems to do an admirable job in keep your feet dry while maintaining breathable.
The only con I have is that the laces that came with the boot seem a bit too long and I would like to see a few more color variations although the red/black/tan is pleasing and don't mind it at all as this is my preference.
All in all, it is nice to find a shoe/boot company that is addressing real world trail needs!

Comments about Oboz Firebrand Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
The insole provided by Oboz is worthless. I replaced it w/ an Orange SuperFeet over an OdorEater. This provided me w/ the needed support & comfort.
If it wasn't for the worthless insole provided by Oboz I would give these shoes a "5".
Thickest soles I have ever seen in this class of shoes, which adds to their performance.
Heaviest shoe in this class, but worth it.

Comments about Oboz Firebrand Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
Tried several different shoes and boots. Actually bought an Asolo first, but found myself not looking forward to throwing on big boots. Even to break them in. So I returned those and tried on several different low cuts. Went in with the intention of getting the new Patagonia leather low cut. But everything I tried slipped on the heel, except for these. Incredible fit all the way around the ankle - I love it. Add a pair of thick(er) socks, like lightweight wool and you should be golden.
Bought these and went directly from the store to a 6 mile hike. Tromped through mud, over rocks, etc. This shoe seems designed to follow the curves of your foot. So far it's excellent.
I generally do backpacking trips covering 5-10 miles per day, 2 or 3 days max and plan to use these for those hikes. As I am able to test the wear and tear, I will update should I see any true cons. But so far I love them.

With thick socks, it's a perfect fit. Probably the only thing I would change is the color....but at least it matches mud.
