Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
I chose this pack over many, its main rival was the Baltoro 70... but I felt that Z65 felt lighter, clung tighter and would compress down better than the Baltoro when I carried lighter loads. The Baltoro felt more bulky and more like a dedicated extended night one-trick-pony pack... unlike the Z65 which could do both lighterweight nights and extended stays. Build quality is awesome. I prefer the more streamlined feeling pack to the bloated, bulging pocketed feel/look so the lack of external pockets is a plus. Overall, a great pack. Give it a whirl...you'll love it!

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
It is not fully evident how they get the weight down. This pack is well made and very comfortable with a 35 lb load. The frame creates a large area for air circulation between your back and the pack. Well thought out and the large front access panel is great. It will replace my Gregory Palisade with more comfort and shed 3 lbs!

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
Has a good weight/size ratio, nice zipper to access the middle of the pack, & very high quality material. My only complaint is that I don't like the elastic style of the bottle holders on the sides but that is relatively minor and most other packs are similar anyway.

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
I own/have owned two huge Lowe Backpacks, a Gregory Pallisade, and a 25l Vaude Backpack. As the Pallisade got my all time favorite for longer trips (carrying +30kg), the Z65 is my new favorite if something lighter is to carry.
The Z65 is amazingly comfortable. No real problem found so far. Of course, the number of pockets could be bigger, but that is the price one has to pay for reduced weight. I really felt in love with this backpack.
The only thing I have not found out yet is how waterproof this thing is. Currently, at temperatures far below freezing, rain is not of a concern for me - therefore I still have not bought a rain cover. But since the backback does not have sealed seems, I guess it is not waterproof, as is my Vaude.
Nevertheless, there is a thing I don't like on this backback: The hipbelt seems to be detachable, but since there is no manual, I am not sure how to easily do this or if this should be done at all. Not a real problem, but sometimes transportation would just be easier without the belt. Again, no real issue as the hipbelt is not as massive as the one of my Pallisade.
By the way, walking sticks can be comfortably mounted on this backback.
Concerning the length of this backpack. The large one is a bit shorter than the Pallisade, making it nearly to small for me but still ok.
So if any Gregory guys read this review: please attach a user manual to your products, that would make live so much easier-at nearly no cost.

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
Great lightweight pack. My only complaint is that the online picture's color does not match the actual pack. I bought the green one. The picture shows a muted/military green, while the actual pack is a bright green. I would have preferred the darker green shown in the picture but the actual color is not bad.
The pack itself is awesome and well thought out. It is one of the more streamlined of those available. It has everything you would expect: venting back, water carrier holder/tube hole, padded waist belt, etc. Could be a little lighter for those ultralight hikers, but great if you want a little more support than those typically offered by GoLite brands and others.

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
I've only just begun running this pack through the mill, but on a recent hike it outperformed the 5-6 packs I've used over the past 8+yrs. The super-convenient front loading panel was a big selling point for me, and was just as useful as I'd hoped it would be. Both the front panel and the top pouch held way more than I had anticipated, and straps on the side readily devour any longitudinal loading. Tack on one of the..scratch that, the MOST comfortable suspension system on any pack I've ever used or tried on, and I would say that this is THE pack for most light-ultralight backpackers.

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
This pack replaced my 12 year old Gregory Shasta and was a huge improvement in almost every area. I just finished the packs maiden voyage...75 miles through the whole GSMNP on the AT over 6 nights.
The pack was all day comfortable and carried well while being very adjustable for comfort during the day. I missed having a dedicated sleeping bag area in the bottom which would make packing a little easier. My other complaint is probably my fault but I forced traditional 32oz. Nalgene bottles into the flimsy spandex pockets and they completely blew out during the trip. I sent it back to Gregory and they are fixing it for free. I guess it's time to stuff the Camelbak in there. Basically, it's almost perfect.

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
I've been mildly dissatisfied with my Osprey Aether 75 that I've had for the last 6 years, and decided to treat myself with a new pack. After much agonizing and hours of pack trials, I settled on the Z65. I used it on a 5-day hike in the Gila Wilderness.
Fit/Carry:
Its super-comfortable. The hip-belt and lumbar pad cling tight and don't slip down, the suspended back panel feels nice and ventilates well, the shoulder straps lay flat and don't roll. I found the large frame to be a little on the short side for my long torso, but it didn't turn out to be a problem.
The first day of the hike I was carrying some rather decadent fresh foods and the pack topped out just over 35 pounds, which seemed to be about as much as I'd want to regularly carry in this pack. The hipbelt just didn't have the structure and padding required to support a load greater than 40 pounds. Later in the hike, I was below 30 pounds and it carried like a dream, could hardly tell it was there.
Features/Loading: Minor gripes - I like the back-pouch well enough but miss having a flap or bungee and sleepiong bag comparment with bottom zipper. I'm indifferent to the U-shaped main comparment access. The arched back panel makes for nice ventilation, but creates a bit of an awkward interior space for loading. The elastic side pouches are too small for even a small water bottle when the pack is full, and they are difficult to reach in any case. Its not the easiest pack to strap stuff to the outside.
The pack has generous space - despite bringing full raingear, some warm clothes and some fresh foods I still had plenty of room left if I wanted to fully extend the pack bag. Towards the end of the trip, I was positively swimming in space. Its almost too big - you could easily cram in more stuff than the suspension could comfortably support. The hip-belt pouches are great, just big enough for a compact camera. The top-lid is generous, which I like. The whole thing scrunches down neatly.
All in all I was extremely happy with the pack and plan on using it this August for a week in the Sierras.

Comments about Gregory Z65 Pack:
This pack is the best I have ever owned! My only complaint is that I pack too much junk (just means I need to cut down tho right? ) It will handle a decent load up to about 45 or 50 lbs with no discomfort. Could barely feel the pack with a load of about 25 or 30 lbs on long day hikes and SAR training hikes/trails. Super easy to adjust and tighten down loads. Love the U opening on the front - makes it easy to drop it and grab a what you need in a hurry. GREAT PACK!
