These have been great shoes for my 5 year old daughter! She has worn them to school, on hikes in Big Bend National Park, and on the Mall in D.C. They have great traction for hiking, but are also good for school wear. The pink laces match her pink clothes which makes them okay in her book.

Purchased shoes primarily for comfort and durability. Turns out they are also stylish and versatile. The pink laces add a fun, girly twist. My daughter wears these shoes with everything – jeans, dresses, skirts. This is the 3rd pair of Keen shoes I've purchased for her; keep in mind, this brand runs small.

We, as a family of five, are Keen junkies. We love every pair of Keens we've purchased, except for the Truckees.We have always put Keen Targhees on our boys (three of them) and, even passed down from boy to boy, the Targhees take abuse like no other shoe I've seen.We colored outside the lines a bit and bought a set of Truckees for our three year-old. He has worn half the sole of both shoes completely through in less than four months. The back half of the soles flop like flip-flops if we put them on him. And they were brand new when we bought them.We are terribly disappointed in the durability, or I guess lack thereof, of the Truckees, at least in our experience with them.It's back to Targhees. [...]Not a better all-around kids shoe out there, which should make it right up REI's alley.

My son wears these to school and for short hikes. He's 4 and hikes 3-4 rugged miles in them without complaint. I love that they are nice enough to wear to school as well! They are also easy to put on and he can do the pull lacing himself!
