A map is a map

A map is a map. Essential especially in unfamiliar territory. But, in addition to informing my efforts in the back country, maps are fun to get a larger view of how the features of the land fit together. I may be weird, but maps are fun just to look at and contemplate. Even more when you have experience with different locations that are connected but not in your actual experience; for example, where watersheds where I've hiked or skied are on each side of a divide but I've never crossed from one to the other. These maps stand up to moisture without disintegrating. And they're durable with long term usage. I always could use one more.
