Comments about Backpacker and Hiker's Handbook:

Mr. Kemsley's handbook is an intelligent "must read" for hikers and backpackers - both novice and experienced. With over seventy cited published references and numerous quotes from outdoor professionals whom the author has met throughout his own decades of research and experience, the advice and wisdom found in this well-written book will serve one's outdoor excursions and experiences positively. The author's continued and extensive passion for the outdoors is evident in the many quoted poems throughout the text, and evidence of the sageness of his advice. Mr. Kemsley is both an old and bold mushroom hunter - a rare thing to be indeed. This is a safe and responsible guide into nature

Comments about Backpacker and Hiker's Handbook:

I was looking to refresh my knowledge and skills after many years of not backpacking. I picked this book up in hopes of doing the job. I could have just dug out my late 1970s Boy Scout Handbook and got the same or better info.

I am very disappointed, the author is very closed mind to any advances in the sport. He preaches his old school beliefs on gear, and backpacking.
