Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
This is a great shoe. I bought these out of impulse, but I do not regret it. These are GoreTex shoes. Because I did not get to prove them under snowy climate I poured water right on top of them and my feet did not feel humid after. The toe protection is really useful and comfortable, and you do not feel it in your toes like in other shoes even when you hit a rock. Tha lace string is practical, and stays tight for hours, however the lace gives the impression that it will rip if xtra pull is applied, in which case I will return them to REI or the manufacturer :). Felt good to my feet, and to my heels (I usually have issues with shoes and my heels). The sole has good grip on loose gravel which increases your traction and reduces your energy loss. The design allows for practically wrap around your feet wich adds extra comfort and good arch support. No need for previous break in to use. These are officailly my new hiking shoes.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I bought these looking for a basic, waterproof trail-runner, which I use them for about three days a week for regular three-mile runs. I run sprints in them without any lack of stability. Now that I'm back in Ohio in the winter, I've been running in snow and ice since the end of October. I have NEVER had a leak in any weather conditions. When I was in Oregon, I ran the dunes along the coast and hiked plenty in the rainforest. These are truly appropriate shoes for any outdoor condition.
With all that said, I've also taken to wearing them to work, play, and the gym. I even wear them to kickboxing here and there.
They haven't even begun to fall apart, and the tightening system (without laces) is actually the most efficient and comfortable system I've ever used on a shoe.
Get these if you don't want to buy two or even three pairs of other shoes.

This shoe is like wearing a comfortable Gore-Tex slipper! My feet stay perfectly dry running through rainy trails in portland, or. They even stay dry hiking through snow, slush and puddles in Colorado. Great all around light hiking or trail running shoe!
They are a great approach and belay shoe for climbing! Easy to slip on or off. The laces do look like they could break, but I haven't had a problem with that yet and I know REI has extra pairs to give you if they do break!

These shoes are awesome. This is my third pair of salomon gore-tex trail runners and each one gets better. I use them all the time. Trail-running, hiking, and sometimes backpacking depending on the terrain & load. You can stand in water up to the tongue seam without getting your socks or feet wet. As soon as they start to wear out a little bit (which takes a lot of abuse), you can wear them as regular sneakers and they look great.

Outstanding support, lacing system, materials in the upper, and I love the GTX. Our weather in Colorado is different every five minutes, and these shoes handle it all. Very frustrated, though, when the soles wore flat and started to squeak internally after only 9 months.[...]

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I have had these shoes for almost 3 years now (I know it's well past time to get new ones) and have never been disappointed in them - from the snowy peaks of Flagstaff to the watery canyons of Sedona, and even in the desert and rocky trails in Phoenix, they have performed above expectations. If you do any type of trail hiking/running, you will be hard pressed to find a more comfortable or more capable shoe. I only wish i could get new soles welded on as the rest of shoe has held up nicely.

Love the GTX and the look of these shoes, but that's about all you're going to get out them. Foot bed is flimsy and the right shoe began squeaking after only a couple of weeks. 2009 version feels narrow. 2007 version was true to size. Foot bed is thin and too flexible. I can feel rocks on the trail poking into the sole. Would much rather run in a less expensive pair of 'real' running shoes.
I bought the same shoe in 2007. The squeak didn't start until after a year or so. The salesperson in the store said they addressed the squeak with the 2009 iteration....not so. For the $ these shoes shouldn't squeak like a cheap pair of shoes. These shoes are going back. Save yourself the hassle and buy a different shoe.

I live about 1 mile from the Oceano Dunes. Every day, I drive my truck onto the beach and park it after I drive south for 2 or 3 miles. I then walk south for approximately 1 or 2 miles looking for stuff along the coastline. These shoes really are waterproof. They fit great. They feel even better. I simply slam my feet together 7 times and all of the wet sand comes off. Buy them, you won't be sorry!!!!

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
To tell the truth, I don't do much trail running (what this shoe's intent is). However, for what I do, boating, often walking my dog where it's wet, and the occasional hike, this really is an awesome shoe. The cord-style laces took some getting used to, but now, I like them better than any other regular laces. They fit a little narrower than average (which makes my slightly wide foot a little uncomfortable). I've tested these to the point where I was loading my boat onto its trailer and the water was up to the laces and my socks were bone dry! Very solid product. I will update in the future if I can regarding how they hold up.

Really like them for running on trail of sand, rocks, roots, moss, water puddles where I live on the coast of Oregon, and for day hiking. I am about to take them to Italy for walking shoes.
The gimmicky tuck away laces busted on both the first season and the gore tex broke thru on both right above the silver logo next to the little toe in the second season, no biggie.
