Comments about Outdoor Research Neoplume Jacket - Men's:

The Neoplume has everything I was looking for: microfiber around the inner collar and inside the zippered hand pockets, adjustable velcro cuffs, and both interior and exterior zippered chest pockets. The craftsmanship and material are high quality, and the jacket has a more stylish, rather than technical, look. On the colder days there's room to wear light weight fleece underneath, and yet the jacket still keeps you warm if you're wearing just a t-shirt. When rain or snow is in the mix I throw my Marmot Precip over the Neoplume. Overall, it seems that there are more than enough of these Primaloft jackets on the market, which are made well and perform well... in the end it becomes a matter of personal taste.

Comments about Outdoor Research Neoplume Jacket - Men's:

I looked a long time for the perfect winter jacket. This jacket along with a good external shell can get you through anything. However, this jacket alone is adequate for temperatures in the mid 20's. Overall, a great jacket for layering without the bulk.

Comments about Outdoor Research Neoplume Jacket - Men's:

My old favorite lightweight jacket was an original Marmot Catalyst jacket. I use it mostly for paragliding, it must be lightweight, breathable, and windproof. Unfortunately, the Marmot was stolen. The Marmot also was not perfect. This jacket is awesome and fixes the problems I had with the Marmot: Adjustable cuffs, not the super-skinny elastic type that make you feel like you're wearing rubber bands on your wrists. One extra pocket on the inside, very nice. Marmot no longer makes the Catalyst and the Driclime windshirt still has skinny elastic cuffs, no waistline drawcord to keep out wind while flying, and no pockets except the outside chest pocket. This jacket is perfect for hiking my gear up the mountain and keeping me warm and wind-screened at high altitude flying where it is cold and windy. I love this jacket.

Comments about Outdoor Research Neoplume Jacket - Men's:

I scoped the field for a purchase for a down/synth fill coat for those times on Rainier in Summer/Fall after a run to the top of Meany Creast & Panhandle Gap. I needed something that provided instant warmth to wind protection as I trued drying off above 6000 ft. Contenders, this jacket, Marmot Zeus, MHWare Compressor PL (all around $150-$200 with taxes and/or sale prices).

I like this jacket because its very lightweight and and provides a nice wind barrier, has little/no flashy logos and is from a local company. It is great for cold weather as long as it's dry outside. After a month or so of use I'm starting to think about things I wish it had. A drawstring around the neck would be nice to keep warm air in. A bit more bulk in the arms only would also be welcomed.

Reading over the product description on the OR website mentions it's main purpose is to replace bulky fleece layers, which it does excel at. Just keep in mind it wont be replacing an outer layer for colder hikes/runs. Layered up with a Marmot Precip shell is the perfect combo. It's also the perfect layer to have your family bring to you after finishing a PNW half/marathon to keep you warm while drying off!
