Comments about Outdoor Research Chaos Jacket - Men's:
Seattle just got hit with the worst snow I can recall in all my 30 years and it's still coming down as I type.
I needed a good "puffy" jacket to beat off the cold and snow. I looked around at some of the other brands, but settled on the Chaos jacket since it wasn't as bulky and the hood has a great fit.
First off, it's amazingly warm. In 20 degree weather, I can walk around outside with just a t-shirt on underneath comfortably yet also walk around inside a mall half zipped and not be uncomfortably hot. It seems to adapt to conditions and breathe as advertised.
It also zips up all the way almost to your eyes and when used with the hood forms almost a balaclava type feel and when the wind was blowing like crazy the velcro cuff tighteners and the elastic waist when tightened stop ALL wind.
It's seriously the most amazing jacket I've ever owned in the fact that it does what it's supposed to do.
I've tried TNF, MH, and always looked at Arcteryx stuff, but I'm an OR convert. Nothing I've owned even comes close to this jacket. If you're looking for a great jacket that you can wear around town, pack for camping trips just in case, or wear around the lodge on weekend boarding trips you can't really do better as I see myself using this jacket for all of that and more.
My only gripe is that it's "water resistant" and not waterproof, but that's a minor gripe really since I knew that when I bought it.

Wore this jacket on a very nasty day climbing Mount Hood. This jacket warm warm in very wet and nasty conditions with a generous fit which layers over your jacket and helmet. Never felt cold or clammy. I have not used it as a belay jacket, but I think it would be absolutely perfect for that use.

Comments about Outdoor Research Chaos Jacket - Men's:
I bought this jacket for snowshoeing and hiking here in Northern Maine. It seems like it would be ok for that, but it is just too loud. I would never have taken it off the shelf in the store.
I can't even describe the crazy static that comes off this jacket when you make the slightest movement.
I won't give it fewer stars for that, but had to return it.

Comments about Outdoor Research Chaos Jacket - Men's:
Although this jacket is not fully waterproof, I can't recall getting wet in it. In Colorado, if it's cold enough to wear this jacket, then it's likely snowing anyway. That said, I've worn it in a drizzle or a short time in the rain, and it doesn't seem to be an issue. Where I think this jacket really shines is as a belay jacket for ice climbing. The pertex shell and primaloft insulation provide good protection from the elements and keep you from getting wet. This is the jacket I bring when I'm out on Ames Ice Hose or kicking around the Ouray Ice Park.
The Jacket is not as light or compressible as down, but it doesn't get wet like down does.
