The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
Bought this from REI about a month ago and since then have used this extensively, sometimes non-stop for days. Have used it for hiking, casual walks and even during sleep in the bed. Washed it in cold/warm water once.
Two of its strongest points are its fit and weight. It's so light that sometimes I had to check before going out if I was wearing this or not.
I love the 'cargo' pockets which unlike the ones on other makes' pants are not hanging loose. They are hardly visible when not needed. Though they are not large, I have been able to carry a 16oz tall insulated stainless steel Thermos in one of them - though the fit around thighs becomes somewhat tight then. They are mostly great for small and relatively flat things. For bigger items I have my backpack!
There are two buttons on the waistline and I thought they were there to support each other under pressure. But one reviewer mentioned that they could be used for adjusting waist size. Both buttons are strong on their own and a person could use one or both buttons.
I like these pants a lot (this is my first Arcteryx and I bought a Palisade shorts a few days ago because of positive experience with this), but I do have a few reservations.
1. Pricey : Most reviewers mention it and it is true! However, these seem to be great value because these will be used often by most of us including me.
2. Colors: Color choice is restricted. I bought something billed as coffee bean or whatever (it is dark olive to my eyes) and wish they had more basic colors like black etc. Still not a big issue for me.
3. Made in China: I am also for free trade and so on and have nothing against China but wish more or such items were made in the USA/Canada. I know it costs more to make it here but for a product of such high price an additional $5 or 10 shouldn't mean much. Unless there are other factors involved.
In summary I had always wondered why 'yuppies' pay so much for a nylon pant but after experiencing one I know why. These are exceptional and I am sold on this brand. Just need to sell my soul to be able to afford most of their clothing though. :)

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
These may be one of the best pair of pants I've ever owned. I've found that Arc'Teryx pants always fit me really well... their sizing is spot on.
I've worn them to the top of Mt Whitney. I've worn them to a dressy concert at the Oregon Bach Festival. They are great backcountry pants, and great everywhere else too.
Quality is first rate as always... they look great... feel great. I have no complaints about them at all. If they weren't so pricey, I'd probably get a second pair in another color. But the quality is worth the $$.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
Excellent expensive pants, for a specific set of uses - what you'd expect from Arcteryx. I compare them to the mulitude of summer hiking pants out there, or the military BDU type pants.
I find these as comfortable (and sometimes more comfortable) as shorts in the heat since they breathe so well. Very light. They dry quickly, and don't feel muggy when wet. (I find them awesome for canoeing/kayaking - I've got them very wet and never felt uncomfortable, on hot summer days) They also don't wrinkle, if you care (though that being said, they don't really look that good - I wouldn't wear them around town to an event I cared about - but that's irrelevant for its intended use).
The thin (and ergo breathable) material feels really weak but is surprisingly durable. I wouldn't test it though, and I'd imagine nylon/cotton is more durable. The stiching is excellent and durable, unlike even some of the BDU makers.
Highly recommended as a summer backpacking/serious hiking/canoeing/kayaking pant.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I bought these because I needed to get out of blue jeans (cotton) when backpacking. When I went to our REI store, I couldn't decide between these and a pair of Columbia Platinum product line pants, so bought them both. These are by far my favorite. They are featherweight, do not chafe or bind anywhere, fit very well (not too baggy anywhere), dry quickly, and stuff in the cargo pockets isn't uncomfortable. The first time I wore them on a desert hike we got caught in a steady rain, and me without rain pants, so they soaked through. After the rain stopped they were mostly dry in 30 minutes. I've also come to realize they are so light and fit so well I that could run a marathon in them, and have worn them on training runs and one 7-mile race with a 47 degree F start. Before buying these I never would have guessed that Nylon pants could be this comfortable.
I also take them travelling and have washed them out in a bathroom sink and worn them the next morning.
Small criticisms: The front slash pockets are slick and a bit shallow; if you nap in them pocket contents will fall out. Also wondering if the addition of a zipper on one pocket would be an improvement.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I'm 6' and about 150, so needless to say my waist is that of a teenager. I climb 3-4 times a week and rely on these pants for indoor and outdoor bouldering/climbing. I have problems findings brands that go 30-inch-waist or lower. I fluctuate from 28 to 30 and what I like best is the dual button at the top - you can button both as intended or button one more over if needed. A bit pricey, but that's expected with AT. Did I mention that they are super light and I might as well be climbing naked? If I had to complain, then perhaps they run "slightly" larger in the waist. However, I've tried on all the other big names and less common ones for the ideal climbing pants....these are the best...the crème de la crème. I would buy one in each color if I had the cash. One final note - simplicity. There are no special buckles or drawstrings or other unnecessary features that add weight and often make the crotch look like there's a cup underneath. Hope this helps. =)

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I don't normally notice the weight of my pants, but when I put these on, I was shocked. They are so light, you practically have to double-check that they are there. Even so, the material & construction seem to be of very sturdy quality.
Now for the downsides:
1. Sure, the pants are expensive, but quality doesn't typically come cheap. This wasn't the issue for me.
2. When walking, the pants loudly swish together. In fact, they are so loud & it was such a nuisance, I returned them & bought another pair of North Face Paramount Peak convertible pants. I'll tell you one thing though, if you're wearing these babies in bear country, you won't need a bear bell.
Seriously, Arcteryx, please keep working on the fabric. Had it not been for the "swishing" issue, I would have gladly kept them.

Bought these as a result of owning the Rampart shorts, which I love. Exceedingly comfortable and light, they feel great, pack light, and dry very quickly. Wore them every other day on a 10-day hike to Machu Picchu and have only good to say about them.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I have been wearing outdoor style pants since the 70s and these are my favorites. Primarily they are lightweight which is critical if you live in south Florida. I bought my first pair 2 years ago and added another pair a year ago. I wear them frequently.
The cut is much better than typical outdoor pants which makes them suitable for casual wear. I have gone from camping in the everglades to a social event and back again without looking out of place. The color is dark enogh to hide dirt and matches a boy scout leader uniform shirt well.
There is lots of stitching on these pants which gives them the nice cut and fit but the stitching is the weak point. The metal pocket clip on my knife ripped the stitching at the pocket. The zipper seam of one pair ripped. These can be repaired but for the price I shouldn't have to.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Rampart Pants - Men's 30" Inseam:
I pass up on these the first time I tried them on.....what the heck was I thinking!? The material felt thin so I wasn't sure about it's durability. But after taking a tumble on the trail this weekend and seeing that the pants didn't even scuff I'm sold! Lightweight, packs tiny, dries super fast. And the cut is perfect if you have narrow hips. No bagginess but still generously cut from the thighs down. The overflap on the pockets work. The articulated knees makes for excellent mobility. Probably end up getting another pair.
