Comments about REI Alpine Lakes Full-Zip Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I wore these on a canoe trip in the Northwest Territories. From the first drizzle to the last big storm, my legs were wet when it rained. The full zip is nice, and they breathe well, but rain pants really need to be waterproof. Other group members were much happier with the REI ultralight rain pants.

Comments about REI Alpine Lakes Full-Zip Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I don't see why everybody is giving these pants such a bad rap! Sure, they aren't the lightest or most packable, but these pants are absolutely solid. These have become my go-to mountaineering pants. The fabric is extremely tough, and the knees are even tougher, since they double layer it there. The full zips are great. They make it a breeze to put them on over layers or while wearing crampons. The fabric isn't the most breathable, but what do you expect for the price? Besides, if you have the velcro at the hips secured, you can unzip from the hip to the knee, and you're instantly cooled off. I've used these in both rain and snow, and they are definitely waterproof. Mine are a little over a year old, and even the DWR is still working great. They run a little big, but the velcro at the hips makes it easy the hike up a bit, making it so you just have extra coverage around the hips.
For the money, you're not going to not going to find better snow/mountaineering pants.

Comments about REI Alpine Lakes Full-Zip Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I enjoy wearing these pants in the winter months. They are great for the cool damp weather of the NW, and keep me dry and warm with just a pair a Icebreaker leggings underneath.
The pockets, zipper and stretch waist are great features that make them extremely comfortable to wear. They are also casual enough in appearance that you can wear them out shopping or to a restaurant.
I would not go so far as to claim the pants are waterproof, but they are highly water resistant. I have never had a problem walking around town, but the one time I wore them on a 40 minute bicycle ride, showed that water gets through if the water has a better angle of attack, such as sitting on a bike offers.

Comments about REI Alpine Lakes Full-Zip Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I brought these pants along for a three-day trip outdoor trip on the west coast of Vancouver Island, where it receives ~3m (10ft) of rain a year.
When I was at the beach doing field studies, these pants held up very well against the incoming tide, where the water beaded right off. However, after spending about 5 hours on a boat in the pouring rain with moderately-heavy wind, I noticed that my undershorts were indeed a bit damp where I had been sitting on the bench.
Perhaps the water had seeped in through the pockets, I don't know. But my legs were kept relatively dry for the duration of the trip, so I was content. I might wear another lightweight pair of rain pants underneath just for extra insurance.
Fits really well, love the full-length zip (makes it easy to slide over high boots), and the reinforced knee pads are welcome (especially when I'm kneeling on rocks a lot!)

Comments about REI Alpine Lakes Full-Zip Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
It amazes me how different reviews can be of the same thing. These pants have done anything I asked them to. I use them mainly riding a motorcycle. I've never gotten wet in them, even at 70 MPH with the wind pushing. I expected them to fail at this point, but they didn't. They block the wind quite nicely, so I stay warm. That being said, I've never noticed a breathability problem either. The full zip feature is great, so that when the rain stops, or starts, you can slap them on fast. Amazing that I've never had the pockets leak either. For being a mid-weight fabric, these pants have been very durable as well. I couldn't have asked for more when buying a random pair of rain pants.

Comments about REI Alpine Lakes Full-Zip Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
Good choice at a good price for quality rain pants. Not the lightest out there, but having the full length zippers, both for convenience and ventilation, make up for the added weight. Good wind protection as well. These pants feel substantial, not like some of the lightweight stuff. They fit well over my hiking pants. The only change I would suggest is belt loops in addition to the velcro tabs.

Comments about REI Alpine Lakes Full-Zip Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I use these as rain/weather/cold gear while riding my motorcycle. I have worn them over jeans, and motorcycle pants and they have kept me warm and dry. I've been in rain, hail, and snow and these pants worked great. Hey, at road speeds some wet is going to get in somewhere but these have been flawless so far.
