Comments about SmartWool PhD Ski Racer Socks:
I've only been downhill skiing for a few years. For the longest time I could not figure out why the front of my shins always hurt after a long ski day. I thought I was wearing cheap rental ski boots. Until one day in Austria, a ski rental shop owner told me it wasn't the boot that was the problem. It was my socks! I had been using hiking socks, which stop right where the top of the ski boot ends, hence the elastic end was biting into my skin. He introduced me to SmartWool and that began my love affair with real ski socks!
I love these racer socks. They are super comfortable and flex well, and were comfortable on the (groomed) sloped, and when it was time for apres ski, they kept my feet cool in the warm toasty European ski huts/bars.
That said: Unless you are a super hotdog and skiing non-stop even in super cold weather, you may find these socks do not keep your feet warm enough when it drops below 30F. I save these racer socks for warmer days, and switch to medium thick SmartWool socks for colder days.
