Comments about Essential Gear S2 LED Flashlight - '07 Overstock:
Great flashlight for the $. Equal in quality and feel to the AA maglites. VERY bright beam with slightly blush tint. Run time around 90 min with full rayovac hybrid batteries. Not recommended for multi-day backpacks where long battery life and low weight are necessary, but perfect for any where else you need a super bright light.Push button momentary on and twist tailcap for continuous on. Untwist cap 2 turns and it will "lock out" so you cannot turn it on. Seems fairly reliable that it won;t turn on in your pocket. Beam can be adjusted a little, but not much. It is fine for normal use with a bright spot in middle, and diffuse circle outside. [@]CNC machined and anodized aluminum parts. Slightly heavier and thicker metal parts then AA maglite. O-rings and a rubber cover for the switch button switch on bottom. I had one issue with the light- my Rayovac Hybrid batteries (which are great by the way) are a tiny bit larger than AA alkalines and they wouldn't fit in the flashlight! I removed the battery direction sticker from the inside of the tube and they go in fine now. A little snug, but they do come out again. The tube where the batteries go is slightly smaller then the AA maglite tube.

Ok, I'm kinda of a flashlight nerd, I have more flashlights then I'll ever use unless we get invaded and we have a Red Dawn type situation. However, for the price this little light was calling my name. It's built well and is easy to use and uses standard batteries (important if you have to raid a local store when we get invaded). So I have mine on my backpack and it goes on every hike now and it's worked when needed and puts out a good amount of light, not he best but the best for the price. Compare to a LED Mag Light.

Comments about Essential Gear S2 LED Flashlight - '07 Overstock:
Like the reviewer above, I am very much a flashlight nerd as well, having owned multiple Streamlight, Surefire, and other brands of flashlights. I really like rechargeable high output lights.
These would be something you can throw in the car or emergency backpacks, household flashlights. Just change out the batteries in the less used ones every 2 years or so.
I've been looking for a Surefire 6P replacement for a long time. Something that put out a decent amount of light, but ran on something other than expensive 123s.
When I found and ordered two of these, I really liked that they accept AAs and the light output is roughly 2/3 of a standard Surefire 6P. So, approximately 40 lumens or so (very unscientific - just an opinion based on observation).
There is a pressure switch in the tailcap allowing for on-off operation at the push of your thumb as well as twist on for when you don't want momentary illumination. Those of you that want this function (tailcap pressure switch) know who you are.
The quality of the build is impressive. I really like the knurled grip as well as the attached clip. I can't attest to the durability of the light as I haven't actually broken one yet. I do not believe the bulb is cushioned, but it has been dropped on concrete once with no affect on function.
I would heartily recommend this flashlight (especially at this price!).

I bought one of these lights and liked it so much - I bought another - but after some use they both developed an intermittent switch (both the momentary push-button and the constant-on/twist-lock). I changed the batteries in both lights - but the problem resurfaced once the lights heated-up (after a few minutes of use).

Well, here goes another flashlight nerd. I have two of these lights (made by Ray-O-Vac,) having bought the second one because I mistakenly thought I'd lost the first one and knew I couldn't get along without it. In terms of weight, dependability, brightness, and convenience, I'd put this light as "best of class" for the 6 or 8 similar lights I own.
I carry the light running before dawn because it is bright enough to illuminate anything questionable that might appear in my path. I don't run with the light on -- I may go days without actually using it -- but carry it in one gloved hand with my thumb on the tailcap trigger. Instant on. Think a motorist doesn't see you? Shine the beam thataway and he'll move over. And ... though I've (thankfully) never needed it, the light is bright enough to be used defensively to blind an interloper. (Doesn't seem to affect dogs much ... but does makes me feel some better.)
My light has been 100% dependable and, yes, I've dropped it a couple of times on pavement. I'd suggest those reviewers who expressed concern about reliability were more likely dealing with battery issues -- not flashlight problems. When the batteries get low, the flashlight continues to burn at a constant brightness until the juice drops below a threshold, then the light goes off for a second or so and will momentarily recycle back on when the batteries recover. So ... fresh batteries and enjoy a great light at a decent price.

I was excited to purchase this product because of the following: Price, brightness, had a clip, it looked and felt sturdy. The bad part was not long after I bought it, (3 weeks) the switch started showing signs of failure (never dropped it). You can hold down the switch and it will flicker. It got so bad that it wouldn't work at all. Ran throught the basic trouble shooting and determined that the switch might just have[...]I returned it got my money back and now I'll give it a second go. Let's hope this one doesn't fail.
