Comments about Thule Frontier 11 Roof Box:

The two of us camp with our dog in a Rav4.We have become comfort car campers, so we have lots of stuff, including thick pads, large tent, camp stove, chairs, tripods and such. The box allows us to take everything we need, and then some.
The box holds all the light, bulky items - foam pads, pillows, boots, sleeping bags, blankets, laundry. Do be aware of the weight capacity of your vehicle's roof. The box holds so much it would be easy to exceed the weight limit of many vehicles.
This is the second version of the Frontier I have had. With the newer attachment system, it can be a little awkward getting the u-bolts lined up to go through the holes, though a little practice has helped. Once on,it is easier to secure than the old knobs. An inconvenient change from the old box is in the straps that secure the load inside the box. The old straps had quick-release buckles, making it easy to add or remove items. The new box has old-style buckles that need to have the ends threaded through the buckle every time, which is very awkward, esp considering the length of the straps. For a few dollars, and about 5 min of work, I put quick release buckles on the straps.
When a friend borrowed the box, he was concerned it would not have the volume he needed, then realized it held all he needed it to with room to spare.
This is my second box because the locking mechanism broke on my first one. One does need to be careful to keep items out of the way of the locks, and not to overload.
Bottom line - the box is great for us.

Service and delivery comments:

After 8 years of use, the lock on my old Frontier failed. Since it could not be repaired, REI gave me a new box, under the store's 100 percent satifaction-guaranteed policy. That is service, and is part of the reason we have chosen to purchase many other items from REI. This is the only time I have had to use the guarantee, but staff who helped me made the exchange easy and did it with a smile.
