W/ Out A Doubt, The Best Compact Stove!
Before finally settling on a cookset/stove setup (for one-two people), I purchased & field tested the following stoves: (01) Jetboil Zip, (02) MSR Pocket Rocket, (03) Snow Peak Giga Power & (04) Snow Peak LiteMax. And w/ out a doubt, the SP LiteMax clearly out performed the rest when paired w/ a GSI Minimalist cookset. I chose this stove over the other three for several reason's. One is was the 2nd most fuel efficient stove (46M burntime off of 100grams of fuel). The only stove that came even close was the Jetboil, but their listed burntime of 60Ms was manufacturer specs only, vs. REI tested. Two it puts out the most heat (11,200BTU's). And three it is the lightest/smallest of them all (including stove height when mounted on a fuel canister). I'm sure there were many other reason's in choosing this stove, but the above three were the main deciding factors. And to top it all off, it fits perfectly inside the GSI Minimalist cookset, and it is suprisingly built like a rock!

Too fragile and unstable
We just used this stove on a ski trip up Rock Creek to climb Bear Creek Spire(May 20-23). The first night at 10,700 ft., on flat snow(stability is a big issue), and in no wind, it performed well. The second night at 12,500 ft., at 25 degrees F and in wind, it did not want to melt snow(even using MSR's heat exchanger) so we had to use it in the tent. On a somewhat rough snow floor, you felt you had to hold on to the pot to not dump it. Stability is a big problem and we were using MSR's cannister stand. We also found the stove's pot support arms to be fragile and when hot would bend under the weight of a pot of water.

Perfection.

This is one of the many snowpeak products that I own, but for all of them the story is always the same, they are perfect. the products cost a little more than the others but in the end they are truly amazing pieces of engineering. Ive used this for a few day trips now and everything fuctions well and it boils water quick, the simmer capability of this stove is very usefull also Buy this, dont even think about it. I own two complete cooksets that include, and love every part LiteMax Ti Stove Trek 900 Ti Cookset Ti Double Wall 450 Mug Ti Spork

Works Great!

I picked this up a couple weekends ago for a back country scouting trip. It performs as expected and had a good, strong, consistent flame that got water boiling quickly. It packs down small and stows in my GSI cook set with a small fuel canister perfectly. My only criticism (although it would be the same with any brand of stove like this) is that the fuel depleted faster than expected. I really wanted to see how much time I could get out of this for longer back country adventures and fear that a small canister would only last me two days. Is it worth purchasing? Yes. Just be sure you know how much fuel you should carry for your next adventure.

What can I say about this little champ?

Very compact and boil quick. Great for 3 seasons, but not in winter. This burner takes a long time to boil water close to 7 minutes in the freezing tempature. Not effective in freezing evening. You will have to keep your canister warm in the sleeping bag; otherwise, it is hard to boil. The simmer is great for cooking with Snow Peak 900 pan due to flame torch side way . Still need to lift the pan up a little while cooking. The burner is wind resistance, but not wind proof. If you look at the burner how the pot holders divide equally on and around the burner, the wind may blow one angle while the other side of the burner is still torching. I love this stove for my 3 seasons backpacking.

Love it, let me count the ways...

This little stove is a great stove for many reasons. My favorite is that it has yet to let me down. I had trouble deciding between canister and liquid stoves, but I'm glad I have this one. There are some things you need to know about fuel types. Last winter, November, Middle Fork of the Salmon at 6,700, single digit temps. I had the fuel in the white and gold cans, my buddy had the fuel in the red cans. Long story short, buy the fuel in the red cans. You will still have to sleep with it in your bag, but it's muuuuuch better at low temps, high alt.

Awesome but careful with that top screw

Light, compact, hot. Only reason 4 and not 5 is that the top screw that holds the “arms” got loose a couple of times and finally lost (4 months in). Could not find a replacement screw either directly from REI/manufacturer (online search only) or even the size in local hardware stores (not even among those specializing in nuts and bolts). REI replaced it, no hesitation (not my preference as should have been easy to fix). Seems others have had similar experience. But, liked it so much I decided on the same one and will keep an eye on it.

Great stove... for small pots!

I recently took this stove out on a 1 1/2 week backpacking trip in New Mexico with a group of 8. Trust me when I say this... THIS STOVE IS NOT MEANT FOR HEAVY LOADS!! We were boiling about 4-5 liters of water for one-pot meals. We trashed TWO of these stoves. The flames turn the metal red-hot near the burner and both of the litemaxes we brought buckled under the weight after the metal heated up. Luckily, someone had a pocket rocket that we used for the rest of the trip. Having said that, I'm getting a replacement, not a refund. It's a great stove, but I'll be doing personal meals from now on.

It can handle less weight than you would expect.

Bought this for a group hiking trip on the SHT. First camp we open it up and use it to make a pot of coffee. We watched as the coffee pot slowly started to tilt to one side as it got hotter and hotter. Eventually the coffee pot just crashed off. The support arm on this thing gets very weak when heated. So we cooled it down, bent the arm back and hung the pot over the stove for the rest of the trip. Unfortunately we couldn't do the same with the food pot. While we didn't have the same disaster with the food as we did with the coffee pot (we were cooking for two in one pot), the supports did need to be bent back into place after each use. I wouldn't trust this for any pot over 900ml. It works great for a solo hiker, but at that point you should probably just switch over to an alcohol stove if you really need a lightweight stove. I would encourage you to look at a sturdier stove before jumping on this one. BUT, it does boil water really quickly and can simmer. So it has that going for it.

Regulation valve failed, handle caught fire

I used my stove for over a year with no issues. This past week I was using it and I heard the sound increase dramatically all of a sudden, looked over and saw that the flame was humongous and the plastic coating on the handle had caught fire and was burning. Before I could wet a handkerchief and turn it off, the canister popped... The bottom basically expanded out so that it was no longer concave. The stove was still burning. It jumped a few inches in the air and fell on its side. My brother burned his fingers trying to turn it off. I managed to finally get it to stop. I'll be returning this to REI and I hope they send it to snow peak. I'll never use a canister-top stove again.
