      Comments about Thule Hull-A-Port Pro:

Bought this while picking up a new kayak at the store after comparing several other types of racks. Pretty easy to install on my Ford Explorer factory roof rack; I did it in the parking lot of REI without any tools. Was a little nervous not being able to "test" it first with a light load, but I threw my new W/S Tsunami 145 on there and drove 90 miles back home without a problem. Folds down easily when not in use. Great kayak rack!

        Comments about Thule Hull-A-Port Pro:

Great kayak racks! We were warned that the J-rack style kayak racks were harder to load kayaks onto for shorter folks than the traditional style saddles. We decided to buy these racks despite the warnings for space-saving reasons. What we discovered is that the covered pads on these racks allow you to load the kayaks from the back of the car and just slide them on. We load them flat rather than on their side and then I just flip the boats on their side. Despite being 5' 6", I can easily do this by myself.

These racks are well-made and easy to get on and off the car. I usually take them off after use unless I am going paddling multiple days in a row. They hold our kayaks very securely and the included bow and stern lines are well-made and easy to attach to both car and kayak. Being able to fold the rack down is a real plus. Another nice feature about Thule is that you can order virtually any part for any of their racks online.

The only improvement I would suggest (as others have mentioned) is the ability to lock these racks onto the rack bars.

          Comments about Thule Hull-A-Port Pro:

I have five different kinds of kayak racks, this is my favorite (three thule, one yakama, one homemade of wood). While it is easy to remove (unlike the old ones that required allen wrench), it is highly functional, solidly built (so far), easy to use, holds my 9.5' recreational kayak as well as my 18 foot sea kayak. Best? It folds up when not in use so you don't feel like you need to remove it any time you travel. Thule is SO much better than yakima it's not even funny (round bars? ALL boat racks turn sideways when you slide boats on!--THULE has rectangular bars so that NEVER happens. This is REALLY a problem with anything other than a small, short car). Seriously, Yakima is overrated. Thule rocks.

They also come well equipped with instructions, reorder information and the best straps/buckle bumpers on the market.

          Comments about Thule Hull-A-Port Pro:

Needed to take home a pair of brand new 50lb W/S Tsunami kayak on my Subaru Tribeca with factory-installed aerobars. Was a bit apprehensive at first since it didn't look very rugged and durable. Much to my amazement the tie down straps and ratchet rope pulleys that came with the package kept both boats from flying off at 60 mph for a 1hr drive!

CONS: The manual screws make it easy to steal the racks and the kayaks. I highly recommend Steelcore lock straps. Lastly, the tie down straps are difficult to get around the kayak for short people like me.

            Comments about Thule Hull-A-Port Pro:

This is a great product which is very simple to install on your car. With that being said, I returned mine to the store after using it three times. I bought it to transport my kayak to northern Arizona lakes to escape the hot Phoenix desert. The two times I drove up north I was all excited and had the kayak in place just as the directions stated. (which are simple) The only problem with my trips were driving up the mountains and having a lot of crosswind which Arizona generally does. This caused the kayak to eventually come loose and I had to slow down a little and stop to adjust the kayak twice. I then used the kayak to travel to a nearby lake (20 min from home) This drive a whole different story. The kayak went on good stayed where it should have and came off just as easy. Basically no wind excellent product, lots of wind and large kayak not that good.
