The lightweight, multipurpose Petzl Reverso 3 belay device can be used with a wide variety of rope sizes for controlled belaying and rappelling.

  • Intuitive self-braking Reverso mode allows the lead climber to belay 1 or 2 seconding climbers directly from an anchor point
  • Clip a carabiner to the carabiner hole and give a tug to easily and gradually release the loaded device while in Reverso mode
  • Device can be quickly changed from self-braking mode to belaying the leader when climbing long multipitch routes
  • Reverso 3 provides effective braking on half and twin ropes 7.5mm in diameter and larger; works with 8.9mm and larger single ropes
  • V-shaped channels with asymmetric grooved sidewalls increase friction on thin ropes for controlled belaying and lowering
  • Rope-friendly design will not kink ropes regardless of the mode used
  • Usage diagrams for standard belay and Reverso modes are laser etched onto the device
  • In an emergency, the braking mechanism allows device to be used as an ascender

Comments about Petzl Reverso 3 Belay Device:

I've used this device for both rock and ice climbing and it is by far one of the best I have ever used. The product is lightweight, lowers smoothly and feeds rope easily. The V-notches make rappelling down icy, 8.1mm ropes more controlled and the Reverso function allows for easy belaying of two followers.
Bottom Line: lightest device with both V-notches and auto-lock.

Awesome belay device. I am grew up using the ATC and now the GriGri, but the Reverso gets it done. I originally purchased this for multi-pitch climbing, but now use it at the crags.

Comments about Petzl Reverso 3 Belay Device:

This is one of the best devices on the market for multipitch climbing. Light, super functional, with autoblock function for bringing up 1 or 2 climbers seconding.

All the function of the BD guide (which is a good device), but considerably lighter with the additional ability to lower without setting up a tricky pulley system like most others.

Best in class for this type of devices.

Comments about Petzl Reverso 3 Belay Device:

Before grabbing this device I would always carry around an ATC and a GRIGRI when doing multi-pitch, using the grigri to belay the second off the anchor. Now with the reverso, there's no need to carry around two belay devices which were not only heavy but took up valuable space on my harness. Also, I could never let go of the rope with the grigri but with the reverso, I can go completely hands free to dig in my bag or whatever I may have to do. Rappel's can be a little stiff since the teeth produce a lot of friction but that's easily taken care of by flipping the device around.

Comments about Petzl Reverso 3 Belay Device:

The main reason I got this device is because it is designed for a wider range of ropes than the original reverso and it has the auto-locking feature when belaying a second. These work well, but I feel there is room for improvement: 10mm ropes are difficult to feed through the device particularly when using the auto-lock; the rope tends to twist when belaying so the end of your rope can get all messy; and the hole used to hook a carabiner and lower the second is a bit small letting very few of my carbiners to actually fit through it. Having said all ths, the device holds a climber very well with little effort, rappels are very well controlled, it's very light, and the auto-locking feature is very reliable.

Comments about Petzl Reverso 3 Belay Device:

After having and using my Petzl Reverso 3 for just over 1 year, one day I noticed a 5mm triangluar chip w/ sharp edges on the bottom center piece of the belay when the biner rests. The edges were sharp enough that I can mange to file off finger nails with it. Thank goodness for having a 3 year warranty on it, so I got it replaced under warranty. Since Petzl gears cost so much, I would have thought Petzl would have a very high level of quality control. Let's hope my replacement Reverso 3 won't be chipping off anything off.

Comments about Petzl Reverso 3 Belay Device:

Used this in a climbing class last night. Coming from using figure 8's its beyond anything I've used.Test loaded two climbers on a single 10.2 line.Instructor was able to hold at tension with just finger and thumb. Didn't bind and provided controllable friction. Worked well with a Munter Mule to tie off as well. Really great device.

Loops on top and bottom allow for all kinds of belay situations.

Light weight and not crazy expensive. Just be careful to mate the tool and rope diameter.

Comments about Petzl Reverso 3 Belay Device:

              Love it.

              Take it everywhere.

I don't like the more complicated GRIGRI and LOVE the variety of ropes that it can handle.
The grooves are grippy, hold a partner much heaver than me who's hanging out on a sport route!

Autolocking feature is nice for belaying a second(s) and now that it can be released makes a good device that much better!
