Unlike other LED lanterns, the Brunton Polaris illuminates the night with natural-looking light instead of the glaring, white light of a typical LED.

  • Superbright 3-watt LED illuminates the campsite with 95 lux; light has a warm orange glow similar to a propane lantern with mantle
  • Switch between High and Low for desired light output
  • Innovative reflector design eliminates dead spots in the light transmission
  • Nonslip rubberized housing provides a sure grip while transporting the lantern
  • Durable aluminum clip allows the lantern to be hung inside a tent or from a tree branch
  • Operates on three C batteries, included

    Comments about Brunton Polaris Lantern:

after 2 1/2 days without power and having used numerous early adopter LED lanterns in Ontario living off the grid I can say this light is a winner. The quality, quantity and endurance of the light is outstanding. More of a car camp or household emergency light or camp light as it is heavy with 3c cells. I have both the Black Diamond and this. the Black Diamond goes longer with less light. If you want to light up a room in a power failure this is the light for emergencies.

      Comments about Brunton Polaris Lantern:

The weight in the description (27 oz) is incorrect--I measured it as 15 oz. with alkaline batteries. Still probably a bit heavy for backpacking, though. I will use this one mostly for car camping. The light output is impressive--it would easily light up a picnic table or large tent. I haven't used it in the field yet, but this seems to be a great little lantern; one of the best size and weight ratio to brightness I've seen and very well constructed.

While I wouldn't characterize the light color as "organge", it is definitely more like the color of an incandescent light or propane lantern than other LED lamps, thanks to a slightly orange-tinted dome over the LED. The reflectors are roughened which gives a soft, pleasing dispersion to the beam and helps lessen direct glare when positioned at or below eye level.

The hanging hook is a thoughtfull addition as are the rubber feet on the base. While I haven't done any battery runtime tests, if you actually get anywhere near the claimed 45 hours (I assume on low and with diminishing output), that would excellent. Highly recommended.

        Comments about Brunton Polaris Lantern:

I currently own an REI Base Camp 6 tent and have been looking for the perfect light to hang in it. The Burton Polaris is just right for this. It's not heavy (3 C batteries) and takes up very little space/headroom while giving off excellent light. There are two settings, low great for when you want a little glow in the tent and high for playing a game or reading. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good tent light. I can’t comment on how long the batteries will last but I just got back from four days of camping, using it every night with no sign of the output getting weaker. Great product!

          Comments about Brunton Polaris Lantern:

This is the best LED lantern I have run across. Good run time, nice build quality, good price (more so on sale!), decent output for approx 3W/95 lumens, great lighting pattern with no annoying dropouts like so many of its competitors. I hate "C" cell batteries. Much rather it had been 3-4 "D" cells for more oomph and longer run time. Imagine Brunton coming out with this in a 200 lumen lamp that would actually light up a campsite adequately.

            Comments about Brunton Polaris Lantern:

I bought this lantern after reading the other reviews and I was not disappointed. This lantern is very bright for its size and throws light farther than I'd imagined it would. I think it's lightweight and great to hang from the top of the tent. The only thing I'd disagree with from the product description is the color of the light - it's definitely still a cool white -- not as bad as some LEDs, but not warm or yellow at all. But I don't really mind since it excels in every other respect.

I don't know about the natural light thing they claim, but this is an excellent compact lantern you can hang in your tent. I won't be replacing my propane camp lantern, but it will come along on ever trip.

I didn't like for reading novels, but good light for everything else. Great to have sitting on the food table. Feels like a well built product. Princeton tec 4 L.E.D. better for reading. With these two lights I'm good for illumination.

                Comments about Brunton Polaris Lantern:

This is a great LED lantern for the campground. It's a little too heavy and bulky for backpacking, but perfect for car camping or those trips where carrying extra weight isn't an issue. We bought the Polaris to hang in the tent at night and it lights up our 4 person tent with ease. Light output is strong and consistent. The carabiner hook on top is a very nice touch. Also works well sitting on a picnic table for that post-dinner cocktail hour or game of cards.

                    Comments about Brunton Polaris Lantern:

Have used it twice and found it harsh. Needs a frosted plastic outer sleeve. You end up looking at a super bright point of light and need to hang it above your head to avoid that effect. Fine in a tent. A pain on a picnic table or at eye level. Otherwise OK. But for us a deal breaker.
