Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
This pack is good for a hydration pack. I wanted a day pack with hydration for summer and mild weather hiking. There is a ton of space inside and many compartments to separate your supplies. The pack isn't as stable as I'd hoped and the waistbelt doesn't provide much support. It's ok for short, non-technical hikes, but you'd need something more supportive if you're carrying more than a few pounds. Hydration is SUPERB as expected from a CamelBak. The rep at REI in Las Vegas was spot on with the packs pros and cons. It's hard to find a day/tech pack for someone with a longer toro (19")

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
Took this pack on a 7-8 hour hike yesterday involving some bouldering and was very happy. The pack snugs down tight and close to my body. I was very happy with the resevoirs capacity and flow. The shoulder straps meet too close to the middle of the pack though and were riding up on my shoulder muscles. Also by the end of the day the waist strap was getting annoying, it could use some more padding or a wider belt in front. The mesh pocket on the side for a water bottle was well designed and did not set the pack off balance. I had a big lunch, med kit, extra shirt, and 90 ft. of rope in the main compartment along with the resevoir full and there was still plenty of room. The pack also had great weight distribution. It was pretty heavy just holding it in your hand but you put it on and it never felt like too much. Felt like it dropped 10 lbs. when I put it on. Overall great pack and padding, can't wait to use it again.

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
I love this pack for roaming around jungles and moutains to school and using it for my daypack on backpacking trips and traveling around Asia, for example. I like to use it on trains/buses/planes to keep my valuables and food for the trip. I keep trying to find a pack like this that is a little bigger, but to no avail. Similar packs are usually too large for me to use as a daypack. It cinches really close to my body, so that it does flip flop around during activities. In any case, this is a great pack for your stuff, but not for a 15" laptop. Boo hoo to me, but I will not get rid of this pack. I just cannot use it for everything I do. Good on ya camelbak.

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
This is a great pack that comes with built in hydration. You're probably going to buy a bladder for your pack anyways so you should just get this. I would have liked a better belt, maybe just a little bit bigger, but the pack is still great. I like the open pocket for storing a jacket. I really like Camelbak's products and I think this is a great buy for the dayhikes I go on with my wife.

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
I've had this pack for a few months now and it has been better than I expected. Camelbak has some really nice high qaulity gear. This is my first CamelBak Pack and I could not be happier. I have used all sorts of daypacks over the years and this is my favorite so far.
Love the open pocket area and the hydration is an added bonus that works very well. Capacity is average compared to other packs and the comfort level is just as good as any other brand.
I mainly use the pack as a dayhike/camera bag. I stuff a DSLR with 2 or 3 lenses in the pack with some food, water, essentials and rain gear. I normally put the rain gear or jacket in the open pocket for easy access. I even lash a small tripod the to pack. With the camera gear, this pack becomes pretty heavy but so far it has been very comfortable as easy to adjust. I'm a "husky" guy and the waist belt is plenty big for me.
Oh, also love the sunglass compartment at the top of the bag. Nice touch.

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
This is a great daypack. I drink a lot of water on the trail, so the large reservoir is nice. Was able to care more than enough for a full day of hiking. I had to mark it down a star as I found the hip belt a little uncomfortable. Other than that, I love this pack.

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
Key Points:
1) I got the 30L because I am big and 20L is to small for my bulky clothes.
2) I wanted a hydration pack for the ease of access to water
3) The problem I have with camelbaks in general are their wimpy hip belts
4) Camelbak packs like asymetrix and alpine explorer have much better hip belts- although I think it could be made better still
5) Camelbak packs like asymetrix and alpine explorer also have longer should straps that fit long torso people better.
6) In the store, I liked the asymetrix's back much better than the Explorer's but I am still happy with the explorer's.
7) I really enjoy the space between the two pockets for stashing things I want easy access to.
8) It has almost become my daily use pack I find it so comfortable and I really like it for when I bike.
9) 1 possible problem- wore it on a rainy day over my rain jacket. I had trouble keeping the hip belt tight. As a result all the weight was born by my shoulders and they were really sore the next day.
10) real nice feature over the asymetrix is that to access the compartment for the bladder the zipper is on the outside- real nice and easy access.
Long Version:
I used to be an outdoor professional, turned lazy and now, upon hearing the call of the mountains back to a casual adventurer working toward avid.
Off the bat, let me say this- I am BIG, not sumo big, but big enough to where I find it difficult to find sporty clothes and gear that fit me (long torso, big beer belly).
I had been turned off to bladders make in my 'pro' days because I bought some first gen ones and they were leaky and the water tasted aweful. However when I started getting off my lazy butt again, I realized that being big and not in shape- I needed more water and better access to it. So, my original thought would be getting a pack for day hikes and overnights (where I'd sleep in a hut so not needing a tent). Therefore I was thinking a pack in the 20L size (specifically the asymetric 20). Unfortunately for big people, being big means having big clothes. With rain gear, fleece, food, and a couple other things I couldn't get them into my pack. I needed a 30 and the store I was at only had Alpine Explorer. Although it started out as a second choice- it has not let me down and I luv it. I wish the hip belt gave more support, but on my hiking trip it felt good all the up Kitadake (2nd highest point in Japan). The way down in the rain I had trouble with keeping the hip belt tight so all the weight was born on my shoulders. I need to look out for that more closely next time to see if it was product error or me error.
I have since used it to go on biking trips and grocery shopping. It's great for daily things. I love the two pockets and the gap between for putting stuff. I also really like the side pockets- there put in a place where I can put things in and take things out without taking off my pack, yet they are still secure enough so that they won't fall out when I stoop over (which has happened with prior packs.

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
I've had this pack for about a year and it's been perfect for my needs. I went through a few packs looking for one with the least compromises. Some lacked cargo space, others weren't comfortable, cumbersome reservoir filling, etc. I wanted a single bag to be capable of containing everything I might need at a moment's notice without being unwieldy.
The Alpine Explorer passes the test. I keep it loaded with the essentials (and a few comfort items) everywhere I go. The various pockets/compartments make it easy to organize and prevent excessive fumbling for things in the dark.
If there were a negative, it would be that it can become rather heavy with the room for "extra" items, but the shoulder straps do a great job of load distribution.
As a bang-for-the-buck, everything-should-serve-at-least-two-purposes guy, this pack absolutely gets the job done.

Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
I use this pack as my day hike pack. It is very useful. I can carry everything I need in it. If there was anyone thing I would change about it is that I would put a sleeve like pocket on the inside of the main pocket. I can carry plenty of Fluids. Food for 3 ppl, sunscreen. 10 essentials, personals, and a light jacket in my pack.
The only thing I don't like is the hip strap. It is not as padded as other brands. It works just fine though. So I don't mind. Price was right when I got mine. Could not pass it up. Thanks REI
