Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
Just hiked to Half Dome and camped overnight in Yosemite with this pack. This pack was absolutely perfect! The hip belt and mesh back suspension by Deuter is simply an engineering feat. I had it loaded with just over 35 pounds of gear and water. Not once did I feel any discomfort or instability.
The capacity is "just right". I was able to get my down sleeping bag, self inflating mattress, a stove, pots, 2 fuel bottles, jacket, 1 days clothing, long underwear, clean-up kit, first-aid kit, tent poles, mattress camp chair, 2 liter dromedary bag (full of water), water purifier and all sorts of spares and gadgets into the main compartment, then put my tent in the large outer pocket, tucking the top of the tent under the top-loading lid. I was able to stash my eating utensils, flashlight, maps, permits pocket-knife, sunscreen and so on in the top lid pocket. My wallet in the smaller pocket under the lid, and a water bottle in each of the side mesh pockets. I added some thin shock-cord to the top loops on top of the bag, and as I heated up, I was easily able to tuck my jacket and successive layers there, or easily grab them as it cooled.
What I like best is that it is a small pack that doesn't require that you lash anything to the outside, but doesn't keep you from doing it if you need to. I only used it for one night, and was traveling with someone else who packed the food while I packed the tent (lucky them - their pack got lighter as we ate!). I would have no hesitation using this for much longer trips, even solo, if i simply reduced the tent size or even used a bivy sack as a trade-off for more food. Using the side compression straps, it would be very easy to add capacity with accessory pouches, then stash them as they become unnecessary.
I have been dreaming of this pack for a long time. I tried on many packs (Gregory, REI, North Face, and many other reputable brands) and read many reviews while shopping for a pack. I seriously checked out the Osprey 33 and 44 in addition to the Deuter Futura Zero 40 before going home with this pack. One of the guys hiking with me on this trip has a 2 year old Osprey 35 that he is very happy with. It has lot's of little pockets and loops and even adjustable ice-axe loops! It has a mesh back almost similar to the Deuter Zero 30, too. He did complain, however, about how the weight didn't rest on his hips, but was dispersed through the shoulder straps as well, making his back tired and sore. I think it would have been a better pack if we didn't have 30+ pounds of gear and water. I honestly felt like the Zero 30 could have taken another 10 pounds without flinching, ripping, or giving me any pain whatsoever, except my legs would have to hike that 40 pounds!
Good luck in your pack choice, and I hope this review helps.

Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
After 40 years of looking I finally found a pack with almost 2000 cu in capacity and great suspension system. Most packs this size have narrow straps that don't allow a 20 to 30 pound load to be carried on the hips without pain. This Deuter does, it's the most comfortable medium load carrying pack I've ever had.

Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
This is my 3rd Deuter pack I have purchased (Fox 30 for our little guy and the Future Pro 42). I fell in love with the other packs and wanted to get a mid-sized pack for extended/winter day hikes and this pack is fantastic. The suspension system is dynamite and fits my short and stumpy body like a glove. Most of the time I can't even tell I'm wearing it even with a 15 - 20 lb load.
The best thing this pack has to offer is the trampoline back panel that will all but end sweaty back issues. Deuter makes a great fitting quality pack that is priced at a value and I'm not sure I will bother looking at other brands of packs again. My wife says I'm turning into a Deuter addict... is that bad?

Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
I just bought this pack for a 21 mile Cactus to Clouds excertion up San Jacinto Mountain in Palm Springs. My legs were killing me, I didn't bring enough water, but the pack was fantastic! I didn't know a pack could be so comfortable. Most of the time I didn't notice it was on my back. The top lid has two separate pockets thats great for separating the emergency things (Poncho, first Aid kit, headlamp, matches etc.) from the little frequently used things like sunscreen, cliff bars, knife, and eventually your car keys. This leave a large almost caverness space for extra cloths and water. The side pockets are plenty big for 1 liter water bottles and the front strechy pocket is perfect for a fairly good size jacket. Just for fun I put in a tent, and sleeping bag just to see if I could use it for 1 to 2 night hikes. It was tight but definately do able as long as you aren't a car camper masquerading as a backpacker. Now that I have discovered Deuter for myself, I find its the only packs I look at online.

Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
I got this pack to carry light gear/safety supplies for off-trail day hikes and have been very pleased. It's very light and the straps are ultra adjustable and big enough to fit my 6'2" frame comfortably! I like the cords on the sides, great for a dog leash, and would be happier with a few more exterior pockets for organization. The off-set frame lets air move and keeps the heat down. Overall, I love it.

I stopped by REI w/o the intentions of buying a pack but I decided to take a look at afew of them and this was the first one I tried on that day. Immediatly bought it, The back support is absolutly awesome, you strap yourself in and tighten the straps and you can do cartwheels! Its that well balanced. the pack stays above your hips allowing greater movement. Great for climbing as well.

Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
This pack is great - it is so comfortable that I want to buy it's bigger cousin for longer trips, but I am cutting it too close on torso length.
On my first trip I went without a way to protect my new DSLR from the elements and I put it in the pack and hoped it was waterproof - it seems to be as my contents and DSLR were good and dry. The features are great for a daypack as well - I put my trekking poles on the outside and carry 2 water bottles and a full Camelback for ample hydration, thus making 20 mile days possible!
The pack is so comfortable that now I am shopping for a new "big" pack because I realized that the padding in my 12 year old Osprey is shot.

Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
This is a great pack. I bought it on Tuesday, and hiked the Grand Canyon on Saturday. Just a quick overnight down and up. Pack is very comfortable, adjusts well, puts the weight where it belongs. Ventilation system is nice, not foolproof, still sweat, but enough ventilation not to be drenched. outer compartments good enough to stuff a jacket for quick access. Hydration pack sleeve worked great even without being "hooked in". Could easily pack for a two, maybe three night trip in temperate weather.

Comments about Deuter Futura Zero 30 Pack:
Pros: This pack is really comfortable, and lets your back breath!! I got this for hot hikes in California. I have been really impressed how dry it keeps my back. It is very comfortable under load (even up to 20lbs), and the various compression straps make it easy to carry things like snowshoes or skiis, poles, etc. As an all round day hiking pack, it would be hard to go wrong with this pack.
Cons (minor): I don't understand why this pack doesn't have a spindrift collar (hence the 4 stars), but if you're not in the snow it's probably not a huge deal. Circumferential compression straps would be a nice addition in future designs. The hip belt pocket could be just a little bigger to fit more types of cameras.
