Comments about REI Vented Explorer Hat - Men's:
I bought this hat to wear hiking "in the bush" down in Australia. Perfect! The non-vented version got good reviews except for ventilation and this is REI's answer. Great for travel - just toss it in the suitcase or whatever. The stiff brim maintains its shape well. I don't like chin straps, but it turned out to be very practical in the high winds along the coast. You can always stuff it up into the pocket flap in the crown and get it out of the way when not needed. I used to just wear ball caps hiking, but no more. I like the sun protection for my face and neck from the wide brim. Although I'm not much of one for fashion, it does look pretty dang good. It won't do much good in a heavy rain, but I'll go for the extra ventilation any day. Handles machine washing OK, but I wouldn't dry it on high heat. Runs a bit small in my opinion, but not by much. A+ for this one.
Service and delivery comments:
My store didn't have it in stock, but in-store pick-up was fast and easy.

Comments about REI Vented Explorer Hat - Men's:
This hat is great for sunny days. It has a narrow circumferential mesh window that lets a little bit of water through when it rains, but it's a compromise between breathability versus rain protection. The hat has a firm brim which adds a nice solid structure. The only thing I wish it had was a retractable or removable cape to protect your neck from the sun.

Comments about REI Vented Explorer Hat - Men's:
I lost my Tilley Airflo overboard. It was gone in the waves by the time I could get turned around, and it was 6 years old so uninsured! Went to get a replacement and found this, just about all of the same features (needs foam in the crown for insulation and flotation) and a lot less money. Won't feel so bad if I lose this one, I'll just replace it.

Comments about REI Vented Explorer Hat - Men's:
Well, I bought this hat only yesterday, but I can already tell it's a quality piece of headwear. The brim functions wider than it appears (which is good, because huge brims look goofy) and it is more than adequate at keeping the sun off of your face. The mesh piece at the top of the crown allows for excellent air flow, and the poly headband does a great job at keeping sweat off of your forehead. The hat looks great, too, and it looks even cooler when you button the brim up :) I spent the morning doing yardwork, and finished the day off with a 7-mile hike - all in 80+ degree weather - and I couldn't have asked for a better hat!
