Comments about REI Campware Nonstick Cookset - Large:

This cookset is great for picnics, car camping, and over-night backpacking adventures.

I wouldn't recommend for ultralight backpacking. The volume/weight is pretty huge for a backpack.

Since it's thin aluminum, moving the larger pots around over a backpacking stove helps to distribute heat more evenly.

The kit doesn't come with a fleece bag for the detachable handle like previous cooksets have. So, the handle may float away during packing/unpacking since it shouldn't be stored inside the pots.

Comments about REI Campware Nonstick Cookset - Large:

These are great for car camping! The non-stick is incredible, eggs, meat, even flaky fish comes off with no effort at all. The ability to use the lids as pans is great, very helpful in keeping your gear organized. They are fairly thin though so if you are someone who abuses their gear this may not be the best. Other reviewers say theirs has bent, mine havent, but I baby my stuff. Just be a little more cautious and you shouldn't have problems. I would recommend buying an extra REI Cookware Pot Lifter for $7.00 . When cooking large meals it's easier to leave the handle on than keep swapping out.

Comments about REI Campware Nonstick Cookset - Large:

I used these for the first time this New Years during a 4 day offroad camping trip. I really liked the packaging and we could fit some of our other pans inside so that was a bonus. They cooked well and were awesome for cleanup. Just wipe out the leftover stuff and give it a quick wet wipe and your done.

What I did notice as an issue is that the chromed attachment point for the handle was pretty weak. The handle fit snug at the begining of the trip then was very loose by the end. The handle was holding but I could watch the metal attachment point bending with any weight in the pots. (This is more a note for improvement REI than a deal breaker). I would also like to see a latch or strap to hold it together besides the bag. It has a tendancy to pop apart as your putting it in the bag.

Overall, I think these are a great addition to the camping kitchen.

Comments about REI Campware Nonstick Cookset - Large:

This set can be used in many different ways. Use the two smaller pots/pans inside the two larger pots/pans to make a double-boiler effect when cooking eggs. Put a little water between the two pans, and no more burnt eggs! Also, the larger pot will fit two quart size 'boil in bags' from most vacuum sealers, for easy heating with no cleaning. We have had our set for several years, and the non-stick is still in good shape. It does not scratch or wear through easily. We always use non-stick spray. We wipe the pieces out with a paper towel or two in camp, then give the set a good wash when we get home. See a trend here? I don't go camping to cook (some people do, and that's fine), I go to kayak, so I want food to be good but easy to clean up. This set fits the bill. The removable handle takes some getting used to, especially when cooking in multiple pots at one time. It helps to remember to turn the silver piece on the pot toward you before putting it on the heat, and always stand the permanent handle on the big pot up. That sucker gets hot if left down near the flame. And a tip for all my kayaking friends, take the mesh storage bag and tie on a length of paracord, toss a rock in the bag, and you've got a great kayak anchor! Happy camping!

Comments about REI Campware Nonstick Cookset - Large:

I had to throw in my 2 cents because the negative reviews made me mad. This is the best car camping cookset EVER. It also happens to be one of the least expensive. The non-stick works great, and it's big enough for large groups but not too big for just a couple. If for some reason these ever wear out (I expect them to last for many years) I'll run to REI and buy and new set right away.

This is a great set, works very well. It will stand up to almost all use, and some abuse ~ unless your a careless gorilla with 10 thumbs, this should last a very long time. Have used it daily for 6 weeks and while it looks used, it is lasting up just fine. Normal cleaning and packing will keep it in top shape. BTW- the handles are awesome! The REI team at the San Carlos store are GREAT - they are as helpful as they are nice.

Comments about REI Campware Nonstick Cookset - Large:

I bought this set a bit over a year ago, after seriously needing to reduce the bulk size of the gear we were taking on camping trips. We have been on two major trips with it. We cook on white gas and propane stoves, and this set cooks, boils, saute's and heats everything perfectly. We have a third, smaller bowl with lid that nests well in this set. First trip was three weeks in the desert for two of us, second trip for a week with six of us. This kit was large enough to cook for six, and great for the two of us on the longer trip. Not sure why another rater had problems with the handle supporting the pots, the system worked well and feels very solid to me. I did purchase a few larger dish towels like the ones that come with this kit, and use them to separate the components when I nest them, which helps protect the pieces better. I have enthusiastically recommended this product to people. It is one of the best camping purchases I have made.

Comments about REI Campware Nonstick Cookset - Large:

I used this set for car camping and purchased this one after our MRS set got older. The pans were great in terms of cooking and cleaning. Very nonstick, even without spray. However, when I would go to serve food the handle would not support the weight of the pan and food. The handle would not stay in the slot and I almost lost a few dinners due to spilling. I had to resort to using the towelettes to serve dinner.

This is a great set of camping cookware. For backpacking with my fiancee we only take the small bowl and skillet/lid which doesn't take up much room and is fairly light weight. The full set is a bit bulky but we don't tak the entire thing on long backpacking trips. In terms of cooking, they work great. I love the detachable handles.

                    Overall, no complaints from us!

A good basic cookset. My wife and I are happy with it and she has whipped up some really good camp food with this set. It is probably a little heavy for any long-term backpacking, but great for a day or two as well as carcamping
