The Mountain Hardware Dihedral technical backpack is designed for the serious user when hauling alpine or climbing gear on single or multi-day climbs.

  • Dual-density foam padded, contoured shoulder straps accommodate a wide range of body sizes; foam-padded hipbelt helps distribute load evenly
  • HDPE framesheet with an alloy shaping rod helps transfer load to the hipbelt
  • Compression-molded backpanel balances ventilation, comfort and snow-shedding properties
  • Remove the framesheet and top pocket and swap out the foam-padded hipbelt with 0.5-in. webbing hipbelt (included) for a sub-3 lb. minimalist option
  • Top-loading main compartment features an under-lid rope attachment
  • Front of pack features a high-durability tarp that resists damage from ice axes, crampons and rocks
  • Hide-way, full wrap compression straps offer a clean appearance and let you cinch down loads for jostle-free carrying
  • Heavy-duty webbing ski straps, fully reinforced three-point haul system and a center daisy chain let you attach alpine gear externally
  • Dual Axe-S toggle holds an ice axe or trekking pole securely, yet releases quickly on demand
  • Hydration-compatible design features a reservoir pocket and twin drink-tube exit ports for on-the-go hydration (reservoir sold separately)

    I bought this pack over the summer to both replace my every day school pack and for technical day trips. I took it to Yosemite and used it as a gear bag and as a day pack and it performed beautifully. If you're a climber you'll really appreciate the rope strap underneath the packs brain. The ice axe holders double as bottle openers so that's a nice perk as well. Despite being a great technical pack, it can also slim down to save weight and space. I wear a slimmed down version of the pack to school every day. It's big enough to hold all my books/coats/water bottle/whatever but not so big that it looks goofy.

      Comments about Mountain Hardwear Dihedral Pack:

      This pack is the cat's pajamas, from campus to the Chugach. I find it more comfortable without the frame and padded waist belt making it pretty light given how obviously burly it is. It is definitely winter/alpine oriented- no water bottle or quick mesh/bungee stash spots, though plenty of places to add pockets for that stuff if you want. For me it fits like a glove without excessive padding and doesn't restrict movement. I wear mine everyday commuting on my bike or out climbing and it never lets me down.
