Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
We travel frequently by air for car-camping trips and it was exciting to find a good-sized collapsible cooler instead of wastefully buying a cheesy foam cooler at each new destination. It would be perfect, but after 2 uses the lining is torn after normal use (only ice and food products inside). It's size and weight are perfect for packing for a flight, it holds ice reasonably well if not too hot, but would like to see a more durable lining material. I will be returning this one for a replacement and hope it performs better. I would recommend it, but with a warning for the liner.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
I just went car-camping with a friend who brought one of these. I'd seen it here and was curious about it so I paid close attention the duration of our stay. It outperformed traditional classic coolers in internal volume (because the walls are physically thinner) and it collapses, so it's compact when empty. I was particularly surprised at how long it kept ice. When other coolers were sloshing, this one still had no water in the bottom. It insulates really well. I of course wouldn't know how durable it is after one experience but it came across as very tough for recreational use. Also, it has quite a few pockets that came in handy. It doesn't have an easy way to drain, so that's kind of a bummer, but overall I plan on purchasing one. Very impressive.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
Used this cooler for the first time over Memorial Day weekend and I didn't have to get more ice. This cooler is much better than any other soft-side cooler that I have ever used. Old soft coolers are not nearly as efficient as this model. No idea what the other reviewer is talking about, the bottom of this cooler is sturdy.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
Just got back from Lake Powell house boat trip. Used 4 of these coolers. Hard to find this larger size collapsible. Perfect size for enough items without getting too cumbersome to carry. Good handles and no useless roller cart. Outside pockets not much help, but did use for small first aid kit, t.p. and maps.
Used one on the 1000 mile road trip packed full of frozen food without ice. No significant defrosting after 40 hours, including 2 hours outside at 90 degree heat.
We used them to haul food from grocery store to houseboat. And on ice runs (each held 6 bags of ice.) We packed them right at checkout line. They survived being tossed around when they were full of stuff. Then collapsed to save space when we were done.
Used two daily for water/snacks on ski boats with kitchen garbage bags as liners for easy cleaning after using it to collect the empty drink cans, sticky trash and loose items at the end of the fun. Also used one for cameras, iPods and misc.stuff that went in and out of the ski boats because it sat well between the seats.
These bags were a little more expensive than others I've had, but are reinforced well, especially on the bottom. Appears they will last longer with repeated folding and unfolding. Only wish was for an economy model without so many frills to get the price down to the $25-30 range.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
The bottom of the cooler not as durable as described in the ad; I was expecting more of a MountainSmith rubber bottom. This product will be the first item I have returned.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
I go camping on my motorcycle and this is the only cooler I've found that I could stow on the bike (just bungee it to the sissy bar) and will keep a long weekend worth of food cold with ice left over at the end. The liner ripped at the seam the first time I cleaned it. But the liner isn't necessary, just makes clean up easier, and can be replaced with a plastic bag.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
When we first saw this cooler we knew it would be perfect for camping, day trips in the car and going to the park. When camping we use ice packs or frozen 2 litre bottles instead of loose ice cubes. Everything stays dry and the liner is just like new after hundreds of uses. I love the durability (I really load it up) and the pockets are very handy. This cooler is our ultimate picnic basket and so much more.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
We used this on a week long road trip. Started with frozen gel packs which kept the food and drinks cool, not cold. However when the gel packs thawed out and hotel didn't have freezer to refreeze them, we had to use ice. The ice melted quickly and the cooler started leaking water where the side fabric meets the hard plastic bottom. If we hadn't had a plastic liner in the trunk, our trunk would have been full of water. Also difficult to drain this water out. Zipper not good seal. Returned for refund.

Comments about REI Weekend Cooler:
Just bought this at REI's garage sale...with a rip in the liner. Haven't used it yet, but it will be perfect for day trips. We camp a lot and this soft sided cooler is just what we need for spending the day at the lake or venturing out for a river trip. Plastic coolers can be cumbersome...some complained of no drain cap...soft coolers are always better with ice packs or ice in zip lock bags...not loose cubes.
