Comments about Black Diamond Oasis 3 Tent:
On initial appearance, this tent looks very nice, 2.7kg weight, very roomy for 2, good access, easy to setup up. The 5 pole design is nice and gives for a very tight frame.
Why i've given this tent 1 star, is that the first night I used it in the mountains of Western Australia (not very big about 1000m/3000F), it was turned into a complete bin job.
Wind was strong with big gusts, but we were camped in between some trees,
This tent soaks up wind nicely from the back end, which is where the wind initially came from. However, when the wind started swirling and hitting from the front and sides, this tent could not take it.
It held up for most of the night, but a small rip occured in the fly of the vestibule by morning. That was ok, but at about 6am a big gust came from the lateral side and broke the poles, ripping a huge hole in the fly as well.
To be fair, conditions probably were extreme and i dont know how well other domes would have stood up.
I'm giving this tent 1 star because I think that having 3 guy points is completely inadequate and does not give the vestibule and the sides enough support. This tent should have 2 guy points on the sides as well as 2 on the vestibule. This may have saved it.

Comments about Black Diamond Oasis 3 Tent:
Just received this in the mail today after taking advantage of the current sale. My last tent was a Black Diamond Firstlight, which was awesome, but not quite what I needed for myself, the lady, and the pooch. This Oasis fits the bill, is lightweight, and has enough room for the two of us, and the handsome large pooch we plan to bring along with us when car camping. I would say it is a 2+ person tent if you like to spread out, but three can easily be accommodated... but you had better all be close. The options are a plenty... vestibule rolls back... sort of like a convertible top, if you will. The two doors are excellent! Construction appears to be top notch, as was the case with my Black Diamond Lighthouse tent. Pack-up is a little bulky with the provided sack, but if needed... the tent and fly could compress much smaller in the event that you were to back pack with it and split the tent and fly between two people. Just an all around excellent, well thought tent! Great color too!

Comments about Black Diamond Oasis 3 Tent:
We were looking for a 2 person, 3+ season tent to replace our old Marmot Swallow (an excellent tent in its day, but heavy by today's standards). Our trips are primarily to National Parks, typically last 10 to 15 days, and include some backpacking and car camping, as well as a flight to and from the destination. We almost always experience some form of bad weather, sometimes severe.
We were therefore looking for a tent that had the following attributes:
- Solid sides, rather than bug netting, for privacy while staying in campgrounds (sites in National Parks always seem small and crowded)
- Space for cooking and sitting up when stranded in the tent during bad weather
- Enough space so you can role over in your sleeping bag without waking up your tent mate
- Light weight for backpacking and to get around the $100 airline surcharge for overweight bags
- Bright color that makes extended stays in a tent more tolerable
- Long enough for someone over 6 feet
- Two doors
We began our search looking at 2 person tents, but switched to ultra-light 3 person shelters to gain more room (why have 2 person tents gotten so small?). Our old Swallow tent was fairly large and we wanted about the same amount of space but since it was also heavy, moving to a 3 person tent still afforded less weight.
The tents that we considered the most were the BD Oasis and Vista as well as the Big Agnes Copper Spur and Slide Mountain. We ended up selecting the Oasis because the tapered shape of the tent, along with two doors on the same side, afforded several benefits over its square competitors. First, and probably most important, is that it's a lot easier to find a long flat space to pitch your tent than it is to find a giant square one. With a square tent, with doors on opposite sides, you have to plan on a lot of extra room for the pitched vestibules and space to reach each of the doors. In the backcountry, the Oasis requires significantly less space than any other 3 person tent.
The Oasis' unique shape also made entering the tent a lot easier. To enter the other tents, you have to climb under the door into the tent, reach way out to zip the vestibule closed, and then close the tent door before you can enter your sleeping bag. With the Oasis, you step into the tent, wiggle straight into your sleeping bag, and then close both the vestibule and tent door without having to reach outside the tent - the zipper starts and ends within easy reach. The shape also affords a lot of extra space around the head of the tent to store miscellaneous items and creates the illusion of far more space than really exists.
I'm surprised that this tent isn't more popular. I camp a lot, in a wide variety of places and seasons, and this really is a nice tent. It isn't the lightest, the biggest, or the cheapest. However, I would argue that it is the most practical. The rain fly isn't in a color that seems dreary on a cloudy day; it has solid sides for privacy, but netting for ventilation and star gazing; its easy to climb in and out of; and it doesn't take up so much space that you won't be able to find a spot to pitch it in. Overall, its a really smart tent.

Comments about Black Diamond Oasis 3 Tent:
I rencently purchased this tent on sale and have used it twice now, once in the backyard and once in the San Gabriel Mountains. Both nights were below 50F with no wind or rain.
I bought this tent for family backpacking trips in conjuction with a second tent if more than three people were backpacking. The tent was fairly intuitive to set-up and comes with all the needed stakes unlike others I have tried. The walls are mostly mesh so the tent was well ventilated. We never had any condensation. Each vestibule has a hoop awning at the top of the fly door which allows you to unzip the fly door to adjust the amount of ventilation. This is a nice feature however the vent at the foot is not adjustable. This could mean wet feet or cold nights in wind or blowing rain. This is the only reason I gave the tent four stars instead of five. I avoid adverse weather when camping and backpacking so I don't think this should be an issue for me.
The tent is pretty roomy with me and my two kids however it could be a bit snug with three full grown adults. This really isn't any different than any other three person tent as I discovered in searching for a three person tent. Weight was important and this tent offered a great space to weight ratio. There was plenty of room at the head in the center and in the corners for storing gear. A gear loft would be nice but I don't think one is available.
The vestibules are not big enough for three packs without getting in the way of at least one door. We were able to fit two packs up in the center under the fly with plently of room for traffic without getting in the way of either door. This tent weighs the same as my current two person tent so it will be the staple for all of my 2 and 3 person trips.
The sack for this tent has an exterior pocket for the stakes and guy lines and an interior pocket for the poles. This is a nice featuer which makes packing the stakes and poles effortless and finding them even easier.
All in all, I like this tent but I would not recommend it if you need it where adverse weather is common or expected.

Comments about Black Diamond Oasis 3 Tent:
My wife and I just got back from coastal camping trip and we took our new oasis tent out for a spin. As it turned out a pineapple express (lots of rain) decided to roll in our first night and confine us to the tent for a good portion of the weekend. I'd say the oasis did pretty well considering the 36 hours or so that there was precipitation.
I would give the tent five stars, except for the following. On our second night at not insignificant leak developed where the fly Velcro looks around one of the polls. This drip proceeded to come straight through the mesh and onto my bag. We ended up draping one of our hardshells under the fly to get us through the night, but I was a little bummed that leaked on the first trip, even with the seam tape. Apparently a tube of McNett is in order.
The other qualm is that we had some splash come up from under the fly and eventually seeped through the lower side walls. This amounted to only a little bit of water, but again, was a little frustrated. I understand there are limitations to any tent and that we sat through a lot of rain.
Otherwise, pretty awesome tent. We love the double doors and the extra space the vestibule added that allowed us to put our muddy shoes on outside the tent, yet still under the protection of the fly. Can't wait to put some more miles on it.
