The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Osprey Xenon 85 Pack - Women's:
I bought this pack in preparation for hiking the John Muir Trail in August of 2008. This pack, unlike most women's packs and unlike all other Osprey women's packs, is able to hold a Garcia bear canister (the type the NPS uses). The detachable top fanny pack was very useful for day excursions - it holds one or more 1L bottles plus snacks, sunscreen, TP, and a camera. It's also useful as a carry-on if you check the pack on a train or plane, though you will need to cinch the pack spindrift neck very tight to make sure nothing escapes! The "Cord Lord" spindrift adjustment/cinch is fabulous - I've operated it while freezing cold, wearing thick gloves, and had no problems, unlike the usual cylinder-style cinches. Be prepared for people to laugh at you about your "gigantic pack," unfortunately - it doesn't pack very small even with the wings system. If I had the $ to spare I might invest in a smaller pack for 2-3 day trips and save this one for the weeklong trips; it's just a bit heavy for shorter stuff.
I highly recommend molding the hipbelt - it's free and takes about 15 minutes. I did a 3-day trip without the molding and the pack was merely comfortable, but the 26-day trip after the molding procedure meant 26 days with pain-free iliac crest, and mine protrudes a lot. It's a very worthwhile investment. The pack will mold itself to you over time, but this just speeds up the process. The rest of the suspension is great, too - super-comfy. The only pain I had that entire trip was in my feet!
My biggest beef with the pack is its organization. The two pockets in the top fanny pack are great, as is the little zippered pouch on the right bottom that you can reach as you walk - perfect for sunscreen/bugspray. The sleeping bag compartment fits a 0F synthetic bag... barely... and it protrudes annoyingly into the main compartment, losing space. Bring your sleeping bag and try it out. The main bag of the pack is a combination panel/top load; I almost never used the panel load and stuck with the top load. The little front pocket is great for smaller stuff - bowl, spoon, spare shoelaces, etc. But the main compartment is just stuff-as-you-may; I would have liked a little more organization. Side straps to store a tent would also have been fabulous; you can store it across the top, but it's bulky and puts you off balance. The bottom straps for a sleeping pad can't fit both that and a tent, sadly. A real water bottle pocket would have been great; there's a quasi-1L pocket on the right side, but it's oddly designed and hard to use unless the bottle is totally full. Daisy chains on the front to hold equipment would also have been nice; I clipped a spare fuel bottle onto an adjustment strap and it clinked annoyingly against my arm.
But, overall, if you're a fan of the one-pocket type of pack, this is a great pack. It's super comfortable, meaning backpacking becomes a pleasure even after a long day - no painkillers and no regrets. The cargo capacity is huge - I managed to carry 50 lb with no problems (stupid, though) and the load transfer is amazing. I strongly recommend this pack; the only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of nice features (water bottle pocket, daisy chains, tent storage, better organization).

Comments about Osprey Xenon 85 Pack - Women's:
I love this pack. Purchased it in March and have taken it on two rainy/snowy backpacking trips so far this season. This pack was so comfortable, it was hard to tell that I was wearing it. Even fully loaded, it was that comfortable. It has a good number of pockets and compartments. The only downside of this pack is the overwhelming number of straps that vary in length and get in the way but this aspect is only a minimial annoyance.
Service and delivery comments:
REI Pittsburgh is fantastic. They coordinated my fitting in person and arranged shipping me the correct size pieces parts via mail. This ensured that I had the best fitting pack possible. I attribute their fitting expertise to my abundant satisfaction in this pack. If a pack doesn't fit correctly, it is worthless.

Comments about Osprey Xenon 85 Pack - Women's:
I work as a Back country Wilderness Ranger, so my loads are easily around 60 lbs. This pack is highly adjustable while ON my body or OFF. The padding on the waist belt is great on bony hip bones that bruise easily from heavy loads. Once adjusted to fit your body, It doesn't rub or chafe shoulders, hips, or back. Truly a comfortable pack. The pack is NOT water proof, so be sure and treat it with a "spray on" proofer to help with rainy days, dewey mornings or high river crossings. It's best to just throw on a rain cover in these conditions. This pack has plenty of compartments for smaller gear. Even though it has a sleeve on the inside for your Camelback and hose-- it would be nice to have a nalgene/etc. sleeve on the outside.

Comments about Osprey Xenon 85 Pack - Women's:
I have so far used this pack as a guide for several weeklong pack trips through the San Juan mountains in Colorado. I was carrying loads ranging from 30-60 lbs. for about 6-8 hours/day.
I really love the padding on this pack! I had no problems with rubbing or 'hot-spots' along the hip-belt or shoulder pads. I had the hip-belt molded and I think that really helped a lot with comfort.
I had more than enough space for all of my stuff, group gear, food, and the occasional thing from a camper. The zippers, clips and cinches are all placed in great spots; not too many, not too few. The front and side pockets make a great place to put rain gear, extra water bottles, sunglasses, etc.
The hydration sleeve is made for the Osprey bladder but I used a Platypus 2L and it fit just fine.
I do wish that the pack's hip-belt had a small pocket on it to store small things like chapstick and a compass but pants pockets work just as well, I suppose.
After several trips I've only noticed some wear up by the brain around the frame. Nothing that will compromise the bag and the wear is probably due to my over-tightening of the straps.
Overall, a very comfortable, user-friendly pack for heavy loads and long trips.

Comments about Osprey Xenon 85 Pack - Women's:
I really like this pack. It holds everything you need for a week long backpacking trip with lots of room to tuck things in when you're on the go and plenty to strap holds. I especially like the stretchy pocket on one side and the zip pocket on the other. This allowed me to store my water filter in a handy location on one side and to keep my tent poles and trekking poles strapped tightly on the other.
My only beef with this pack is the hip strap. The REI fitter made sure I had the right size hip strap and pack size. And I will say that it's really comfy on the front and side of my hips, but I feel like I'm carrying the full weight of the pack on my rear hip. I could feel it poking me when the pack was empty and (thank god) it didn't get worse when the pack was full, but after 7 days it hadn't broken in anymore and it was still a pain. By noon each day, I'd be wishing I could throw this thing off and just walk away.
Even though I love everything else about this pack, I'm going to go back to the store to see if another style pack might fit me better.
