Comments about Merrell Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking Boots - Men's:
I've had these boots for a couple of years and must finally retire them. Super comfortable and durable. The leather gets pretty scratched up, but doesn't effect the performance at all. The sole is beat-up and worn, but has lasted many many miles. Sole at the toe is starting to separate, but other than that, I never had a problem with the boots at all. Great boot: comfortable and durable. They got me up most of the CO 14ers and Kili with no problem. As with most full grain leather, a bit much for short day trips without a load, unless you need the stability and are walking on rocks.

Comments about Merrell Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking Boots - Men's:
First pair, manufacturing defect; burn on tongue, melting nylon material.Second pair, design defect; eyelet pulled out after 2 hikes (4-week-old boot). Rivets holding eyelets for laces are too small. Hole dia. in leather is 4.5mm and rivet back is 5.3mm, leaving only 0.4mm collar to grip leather. See [@]

Comments about Merrell Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking Boots - Men's:
I was disappointed with the performance of these shoes. After rolling my ankle several times, with and without a pack, I decided to compare them with my old Soloman's. I noticed that the Merrell's were about 1 inch shorter at the ankle. Maybe this is the reason. I have never had a problem with rolling my ankle until I used these boots. I have hiked about 200 miles since I bought them, and one of the eyelets just pulled off. (This is less than 1 year of use.)Also there is a design flaw where the highest feed through eyelet tends to cut into the shoe lace as you pull them tight. I needed new laces after 3 months. I am now researching for my next pair of hiking boots, and thought I would share my point of view.

Comments about Merrell Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking Boots - Men's:
My travels have me hiking anywhere from the Olympics to the Adirondacks and I have to say these boots have become my new favorites. Stable, comfortable, and they keep my feet dry. Right out of the box, I took a short hike here in WI where I live. They were so comfortable and I was so confident in their fit and performance that I took them (just days later) for 2 weeks in the Cascades. I am tempted to buy another pair just to keep on hand for when these eventually wear out!
I absolutely love the grip of my soles. They have good lugs that clear well and they are slightly soft so they grip slick surfaces better than any other boot I have ever owned. I normally wear these with 30-40lbs of camera equipment on my back and I am no lightweight myself. They are very stable on steep trails and these still feel great after spending several days in the mountains.
Merrell footwear tends to fit me very well; within the last year or two I have quit buying anything else if I can help it. I honestly can't think of what I would change on these boots. I just dread when it gets too cold to wear these where I live.

Comments about Merrell Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking Boots - Men's:
I just got done with these boots on a little 35 mile hike through the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon. I did it in these boots with no break in time before hand. Now, usually I would never do that with a pair of stiff boots like these especially since my load was about 65 pounds, but I had no time to break in. So I bought some superfeet and went at it. All I can say is amazing, these boots are awesome. I dont know if it is the same for everyone else who does not have different insoles, but with superfeet these boots were very comfy. Also these boots had great support and super grip on very shaky grounds. I would recommend these boots to anyone. I would however say to be safe to get a better pair of insoles.

Comments about Merrell Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking Boots - Men's:
I have worn my boots everyday working for over a year and they are great. I added a memory foam insole and it made a big difference. The sole is soft and has torn a cleat off while I was hiking on the sharp rocks in the Wichita Mountains. I am going to buy another pair when these wear out. Good boot with great traction.

Comments about Merrell Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking Boots - Men's:
I've been a rabid backpacker in the Washington State's Olympics and Cascades for over 40 years. I usually carry between 40 and 60 pounds, depending on the trip.
I've worn these boots on 100+ miles of back-country trails. They are well made, kept my feet warm and dry and have probably one of the stickiest treads I've ever worn. They have great traction and cling to even the slipperiest of rocks.
However, I found them to be one of the least comfortable hiking boots I've ever worn. The foot bed provides very little cushioning, particularly under the balls of my feet. I also found arch support somewhat inadequate. Usually after hiking for ten miles or so on any day, my sore and well-pounded feet were ready to call it a day. After wearing these boots for over 100 miles I decided that they just wouldn't get any more comfortable. I finally ended up switching back to another model of boot that I've worn in the past. (Danner Expedition GTX)
They're great boots, but they were not a good match for my feet and my very fast (3.5 MPH) style of back packing...
