Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

Like the previous reviewer mentioned, it is pain in the neck to inflate this thing. However, this is a great pad. I can't think of going camping without this pad. It works really well in terms of keeping warmth.

If you'd like to purchase a sleeping pad that does everything but stay inflated, then this is for you. That's right, it is packable, lightweight and super comfy until 1am when you are on the ground.

Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

It's a pain to blow up, but after 40 or so big breaths, I'm experiencing an out of body experience and this is perfect to lay down and relax on...lol. I love how small it packs down and how light these are for the amount of thickness you get in return. There is a trick. Inflate fully, lay down and let a little air seep out until your hip almost touches the ground. If you let out too much, give it another breath of two. Thing is that people blow them up to the max and sleep on a stiff bed all night, when you really are looking for the right pressure to conform to your hip and shoulders without touching the ground. If it gets cold at night, the mattress will feel like it lost air, but this is normal so if you anticipate a cold one, leave a bit more air in it. Opposite when it goes from cold to hot. I've patched a few holes, the kit it comes with is great, but ya. I rock mine with a bed roll/picnic mat which has mylar on both sides for extra protection and warmth.

Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

So I use this sleeping pad all the time. Honestly it's more comfortable than my bed. My other sleeping pads were very bulky and not that comfortable and when my last one broke I went with this one. It's very warm and I just love it. One thing is that it does not self inflate.

Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

Most of my gear is tailored toward covering a lot of ground. I may never be a lightweight purist, because these things are so comfortable. I slept on one in Dinosaur, UT, Arches, and in the San Juans in southern CO from late May to Late June, and it was fantastic. There are lighter and/or warmer options, but for the money, I can't complain at all. I have also taken this pad out in the winter (night time lows about 20 degrees, maybe lower) and I have been fine, but I am a warm sleeper.
This is my second Big Agnes Insulated Air Core. I bought a small, mummy cut one for my wife (it's the one I used for a month) that weighs nothing and is even smaller when packed up.

    Service and delivery comments:

Freaky Fast Delivery. I got this thing from Pennsylvania in two days!

Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

I just purchased this about two weeks ago at a the Southcenter store. I had to do something after not getting any sleep the weekend before on a three night outing. The only pad I had ever used was a very inexpensive self-inflating version that was less than 1" thick. When I slept on my side, my hip bones were always on the ground and after three nights, they were so tender, touching them hurt. I don't have experience with any other pads, so this is purely my observations on this particular pad.

I was looking for something smaller, lighter, thicker, more comfortable and relatively inexpensive. The Big Agnes insulated air matress fit all of these. This is very compact compared to my old self-inflating pad. It now goes inside my pack rather than having to be on the outside. It rolls small and tight, just wish the stuff sack was that much smaller too. It is very light and the thickness when inflated means that I don' ever touch the ground, even with a lot of the air let out to make it a bit softer and more conforming.

I use this with the Big Agnes Lost Ranger bag with the internal compartment for the pad. This pad goes in way easier than the self-inflating type since it is flat and very thin when deflated. Inflating it took just a minute and a dozen breaths. Now that I know that I let nearly half the air out to make it comfortable, I should be able to get it to the right level in 6-9 breathes and be all set. Because of the internal compartment on the bag, I don't have issues with sliding off of the pad, but I can see where the material it is made from could make is slippy for others. I suspect that deflating it a bit would also make it quiter, but I can't really comment as I without hearing aids I don't hear anything and I don't sleep with them in, so nights are totally quiet for me.

While I can't speak for durability or cold weather suitability, I will say that I am again looking forward nights in the tent. I haven't slept this comfortably in years.

Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

This is an extremely comfortable pad for side sleepers. No sore hip bones in the morning when using this pad. Unfortunately, I'm about to return my Aircore Pad for the second time. The first pad developed a leak. There were no visible holes but a dip in the bathtub showed a steady leak through the middle of the pad. The second pad developed a leak around the valve. The plastic piece of the valve inside the pad has a point on it. Over time the point wore a hole through the pad fabric. Not a very good design in my opinion. I really liked the pad other than these two issues. My son was jealous of my nice thick pad so I bought him one. Hopefully his will perform better than mine.

Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

I bought this for 2 reasons. I needed a sleeping pad for Scout outings when I can't take my hammock and that thin little pad my son has ain't gonna cut it for me. I'll add more input in this review after a couple of outings. One is this weekend and it's supposed to be chilly.
As soon as I got it home, I inflated it and took me a little napper. It's plenty comfy and seems warm. For those of you that would like a little hint on making inflating easier, here's some info to help you out:

Get a trash bag(any size) and wave it in the air to inflate it. Once it's filled with air, close it quickly to trap as much air in it as you can. While holding the bag closed as best you can, insert the opened valve into the tight opening of the bag. Seal the junction well and squeeze the bag. This will fill your pad without winding you and blowing moist air into your pad. Hopefully my description was good enough. Once you try it a few times, you'll get the hang of it. Happy camping!

Comments about Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad:

Here is an updated review for the Insulated Air Core Pad, since most of the reviews I've seen at the top are from 4 years ago. The pad takes a little while to inflate (~3 min easy breathing) which is expected since its 2.5 inches thick.
That being said, once inflated, this is the most comfortable pad I've ever slept on. The pad itself has a layer of primaloft insulation welded to the redish side which will keep you warm even if you inflate the bag with your breath (which adds moisture into the pad, normally defeating the insulating properties of down). The weight for the regular pad listed was spot on.
This pad is NOT LOUD at all to roll around on, and I found no issues of slipping off the pad during the night. I'm 6'1", 160 lbs, and I was comfortable sleeping on my back, side, or stomach. I have wide shoulders so the pad was just wide enough to cover that and remain comfy.
The material used on both sides of the pad is really tough. I can't picture myself puncturing it unless I was stupid enough not to check the ground I was sleeping on before laying down the pad. So far it has held up very nicely and at a price range around seventy dollars, its a great investment for your comfort.
The only downside I've found is that the pad is pretty hard to pack down small enough to fit in the small bag it comes with; its tough to squeeze out all of the air from the pad. I've found the best way to pack it is to fold it vertically in thirds (while leaving the valve open and squeezing the air out with your body) and then fold it in half several times over before placing it in the sack. You'll need to get 99% of the air out of the pad if you want to make it fit. Do not roll this pad, it will only frustrate you and ruin the insulation inside. After practicing packing up the pad a few times on the floor you'll find yourself more than capable of doing it in a tent.

Other than the packing issue, which should not deter you from buying this pad, this is a great pad. Tough, lightweight(for its size), extremely comfortable, and warm. Don't use this pad for winter camping unless you put a closed cell pad underneath.
