Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:
I traded in a pair of Vasque Gore Tex Breeze's that i didn't like for these boots. I tried on so many different hiking boots because I wanted a good pair for colorado. These were immediately the most comfortable. They kept my feet warm and dry while in the Colorado snow, and hiked well. Just used them yesterday on a paved hike in San Diego and they were great- feet didn't hurt at all! Love them!

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:
These are the perfect boots-they provide great support from all sides without being too stiff or heavy. For people with average-to-wide feet, I'd recommend a half size up. I've worn these boots through all possible conditions and they've stood up to the challenge without giving me a single blister. Overall a great investment!

OK. So I put these shoes to the best possible test - Overnight hiking to the bottom of the canyon.Half way through the South Kaibab, I was on on 5/5 thanking this product. By the time, we hit phantom ranch, I had blisters on both my feet, perfect soles, but extremley sore right ankle. Granted, thats not how one would use these shoes every other day, but my husband ( in his keen targhee bought at the same time!) had not the slighest issue with his feet..and we both are hikealikes. I wanted to hike back up in my slippers - so sick I was with these shoes..but for the rocky terrain, I had to keep them on. Dont get me wrong, these are good shoes, very good traction and sole support, but do not rely on them for toe or ankle protection in your adventures. If I were to buy another pair for a similar adventure, it will be keen targhee, not a merrell for sure. A 2/5 for protection, 5/5 for looks and short hikes.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:
These boots broke in without a blister on a long, dry hike, and are ideal for my small, wide feet. I've worn them on a couple of long, wet hikes as well. Traction was great: no slips. Although the boots were damp on the inside by the time I was finished--after a bit of sloshing through some muddy, wet areas--my feet were still warm and dry inside my wool socks and the boots dried out overnight.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:
An avid fan of anything Merrell, I bought these for a 8-day trip to Alaska. The waterproofing sold me, and I was not disappointed. I hiked, went canoeing in the rain, trekked a glacier, and basically spent over 12 hours a day on my feet wearing these. I didn't have a chance to break these in before the trip, but I found out (luckily) that there really wasn't a need to do so. Great serious hiking shoes!

I bought these boots at a attic sale and they were great for a about a year. I work out in the field walking a lot and I wore themt on many hiking trips, unfortuntely they started breaking after a year. Though this was a good product I was very disappointed with how long they lasted.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:
I bought these boots the day before a ten mile hike up to Castle Peak at Donner Pass near Tahoe. The terrain there varies from light dusty powder through hard-packed dirt to loose scree and knife-edged granite rocks, and it's fairly typical of the day-hikes I do--10-15 miles on varied terrain.
I had no break-in period at all; they went out of the box and onto my feet. It was a gamble, I know, but, amazingly, these boots were great from day one--comfortable, no hot spots or blisters, grippy, ankle supporting--all is good.
I would buy a size to a size and a half up from your normal size, particularly if you wear hiking socks/liners.
I wear Wigwam hiking socks with REI liners and green superfeet (the superfeet because I have plantar fasciitis). Amazingly, for the first time ever, after the hike, I have had no problems at all with the plantar pain. None!
That has never happened before after a hike; normally, post-hike, I'm addicted to tennis balls under my feet and taking ibuprofen, but, with these boots, I'm thrilled that I have no arch problems at all. That alone has sold me on these boots.
They have a firm sole (firmer than Lowa's), so perhaps it was the additional support that I needed for my arches.
They do squeak a little, possibly because of sweaty feet? I haven't had that before, and it wasn't all the time, nor was it loud, so, in the context of all the boots' strengths, the rare squeaking is an easily acceptable trail.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots - Women's:
I needed a pair of actual hiking boots since I'd been wearing running shoes. This is my first real pair of hiking boots but I love them and will probably stick with merrells from here on out.
I did put in a pair of green superfeet (which I recomend for any shoes, I even have a pair for high heels) and wore REI brand wool socks.
I took them to the Grand Canyon and Mt Zion. We did Angel's Landing. I had absolutly no problems even with practically no break in period. At the end of the day I gave myself a footrub as usual and my feet feltcompletely refreshed, not at all like I'd been hiking all day. No blisters, pains or ahes of any sorts. Waterproof and great traction!
