Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
i have used this bag for 1.5 years now, both backpacking and car camping. it is a little big for backpacking, but if you want comfort and room to move this is the one. i use it with an REM sleep pad and it is a perfect fit. never had the pad move or slide out from under me in the night, even on a sloped site. i like the integrated pillow pouch, just shove a sweatshirt or something in there and you have a great pillow that stays in place. my only "complaint" is that is too warm. even when the temp gets down into the 20's i still find myself sweating sometimes. i have used the bag after it has gotten damp on my kayak and it still kept me warm all night. so if you don't mind carrying a little extra weight and want maximum comfort and warmth, with plenty of room to toss and turn, this is the bag!

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I bought into all the reviews about the sleeping pad staying under you while you sleep..... and that bag is extremely roomy for side sleepers. All that's great besides one major thing.. the bag not rated at the right temp.
I recently used the bag for several nights in temps in the mid 30's and I was cold. If the bag was rated for the mid 30s I could understand being chilly..but a bag with a rating +15...
I'm returning the bag and focusing on a bag that's using the EN rating system.

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
The Big Agnes Encampment is the best designed sleeping bag I have ever used. I move around and toss and turn and the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core pad stays under me all night! I use the Encampment mainly for damp conditions and the Lost Ranger (down) when it's dry.

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I think this bag is great because it is very roomy...perhaps too much so. Sleeping bags rely on air as insulation- I'm 6'1", and not very heavy, but I'm a warm/hot sleeper (need higher temp close to my body at night). I got this bag so I could have plenty of room. It takes awhile for it to "warm up" with my skinny frame inside, but after 10 minutes it warms right up. I still will sleep fully clothed in the fall with this bag- but that's just because of my body frame and heat preference. I enjoy all the spaciousness, and the underside has a great sleeve for using a pad. I don't use the exact reccommended pad, but I use a 20" x 1" pad with NO PROBLEMS. I would buy this bag again for this system- it is great not sliding off the pad during the night. I'm not sure of the other person's problems, but I've been using it for almost a year now with no complaints. Zippers work well, no drafts felt, great materials, and I'm glad to purchase something made in the USA (Steamboat Springs, CO). This is not for very cold weather (as the temp rating indicates), but is pretty compact and with the price drop is now a super steal. I call it the "Double Up" system (for lack of a better term) as you can order these bags with the zipper on the left (L) or right (R). With another Big Agnes bag, you can zip the two together for a couples bag (nice!). They thought of just about everything with this bag- great all inclusive design (built in pillow, air pad sleeve, stuff sacks).

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I bought this bag purely on recommendation[...] I told them what I wanted and they recommended the bag. And I didn't even know about the pocket on the bottom for the mattress until I got it home. Luckily I got the right Big Agnes insulated air matress for it.This bag is quite nice. Zippers pull nicely. Zipper does not have pulls on the inside and outside, but you can slide the pull around the top edge of it and use as either an inside or outside pull. I do wish the zipper went further down for better air circulation down by my feet (yes, I know you can zip up from the bottom for foot ventilation). I am 6' 1", 250 pounds, and wear a size 50 jacket. This bag fit fine. I might have wished for it to be slightly longer, but that is just a nit pick. It is wide enough that I can sleep on my back or my side, although I have yet to sleep in it with it zipped completely up as I have been plenty warm without doing that. Maybe get a chance to try that out this fall.I like the pocket for the pillow, too, but personally I need a bigger pillow when I sleep. But if I was backpacking/hiking and needed to keep thing to a minimum the Big Agnes deluxe pillow is a nice fit and works well in there (I got that, too). It was nice not rolling off the air matress or needing a queen size blow up mattress to stay on.I have used this out camping one time so far and needed less to say I was plenty warm. Others in our camping area had complained of freezing the night before and asked us to bring extra blankets when we came up. Now, I am a warm sleeper normally, but I ended up sleeping in shorts only with the bag unzlipped and mostly open most of the night. It was about 65-70 degrees out that night and rained and I was sleeping in a Big Agnes Big House 6 with the front and rear doors closed and rain fly on. Not a problem keeping warm at all. And that was with only 2 people sleeping in the tent - i.e.: lots of open space.Big Agnes makes some nice products, in my book,[...] Well worth the money spent, [...]
Service and delivery comments:
As with other items I reviewed, the REI Sales people at the Bloomington, MN store were VERY helpful in getting me setup with my first real tent, sleeping bag, and matress purchase for myself and my 3 year old daughter. I would definitely recommend that store to anyone around here wanting quality stuff with good customer service! I just wish there was a store closer!

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I'm 5'10", so not that tall. My problem is I'm currently topping out at 300lbs and need more room in my bag. This one was the only bag I was comfortable in. We used it this past weekend and it dropped down to at least 35 degrees and I was toasty warm all night. I use a Thermarest Ridgerest that has been cut to fit in the pad sleeve and found myself getting too warm at times.
The zipper did tend to snag easy but I snag other zippers all the time too. The biggest plus though was the room to move. I tend to side sleep a lot and this bag let me do just that.
For packing, it stuffed down into the included stuff sack, no extra compression bag needed, and tucked away into the bag compartment of my Osprey Aether 70. Nothing to it.
As for the weight, it's a synth bag so it will be heavier. I'll take the extra 1.11 lbs for the piece of mind knowing that if it gets wet I'll still be warm. I've experienced bag failure due to being wet and won't buy another down bag again.

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I really don't understand the comments about this bag being cold. I am a very cold sleeper and have used on the AT trails of north Georgia in fall, winter, and spring camping and never been cold. It's not a zero bag so I use another bag when we expect 20 or below but this bag has kept me warm below 30 and howling winds on a peninsula.
I love the pad system as I roll all night and it's also very roomy being 6'2" its a tall mans bag.
The zipper does flip inside so you can unzip from inside.
I do use a compression sack for as it is a little bulky but its a great bag.

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I use this bag for car/motorcycle camping, its too heavy for backpacking, I love the big foot box and sleeping pad pocket the pad stays put and the big roomy bag allows me to turn over in the bag rather the with it but that room comes with a price its not as warm as it rating with all that extra air for your body to heat so I advise you to consider it a 25 degree bag if you dont fill it up like a normal mummy bag, your gonna love the room though.

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
Put aside the other reviews that have said this bag isn’t warm enough, this bag is plenty warm. I was recently camping at 8500 feet at 31 degrees with heavy rain and heavy winds on the verge of having a snow storm. I was using the rei quarter dome T1 tent with my Big Agnes and I was warm and dry all night long. I actually had to sleep with the bag half open most of the night. I’m 5’10” and 215 lb and very comfortable in this bag. I use a therm-a-rest prolite 4 reg. for a sleeping pad and 2 pillows,(therm-a-rest and big agnes air core for the pillow sleeve) and still had plenty of room.

Comments about Big Agnes Encampment +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I found this sleeping system to be great and I will continue to use it. I used it backpacking in the Sierra's at 9000 feet and was plenty warm, sometimes too much, I actually slept with it 3/4-zipped. It wasn't that cold, probably no less than 35 F and I slept in long underwear too. I'm a big guy 6'-3" 230 lbs with broad shoulders and found the bag comfortable and larger than everything else but it could stand to be a little bigger in the shoulders and knees. The integrated sleeping pad sleeve was amazing and I was never off my pad (I used the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core w/ a foam pad to prevent punctures) even when I turned over, but it doesn't accept 25" wide pads. The pillow sleeve was small and could stand to be larger too... My girlfriend has the women's version and found it perfect for her although it was hard to stuff into the pack and required a compression sack.
