Great Redpoint Rope

I got this rope at Christmas and have been using it exclusively up to now. After about nine months I'm retiring the rope because the sheath has turned fuzzy, stiff in some places, and in a few areas the sheath and core have clearly separated. At 9.5mm and 58g/m this makes a fantastic redpoint rope. When new, the rope handles remarkably well, has a good feel clipping into pro, and looks pretty in bright orange.

However, I've learned it is not a work horse rope. After the past few months of using it 3x per week on some local sport climbing projects where 15-20 foot lead falls are guaranteed every time out, the rope has quickly given up the ghost. It survived one last hurrah at Smith Rock this past week and now it will go quietly into the Sterling Rope Recycling program. If you can afford two ropes, use this when you've got your project all sussed out and are ready to start redpoint burns. But, if you're still just working out the moves and the send is still a couple months off, try something in the 10mm range.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The Mammut Infinity rope is a great all-around rope. After researching a number of different ropes I found the Infinity covered all of my needs: light-weight (58 grams/meter), durable, dry-treated and a lead-rated single rope. I use mine for long, multi-pitch routes, alpine routes with long approaches (more than one hour) and sport routes. The rope also doesn't take up very much space in a backpack. I am extremely happy with this rope.
